Travelling to Canada from UK in September, can anyone please offer advice on best SIM to use in unlocked phone? Should I buy here or get one while over there? Would like data and not just call / text capability.

TIA...

I imagine you’d be better off getting a SIM in Canada.

Kudo Or Virgin I believe are the main options. There are roaming charges between provinces and the basic charges are pretty high, so I’d recommend doing some research before you go.

edit: also check that the company you go with covers the areas you want to visit

Didn’t see Flaperon’s reply. That would be a good option

Public mobile. super flexible and I think you can even change your number if you move provinces to keep things 'local'
Vodafone are 6gbp per day roaming use even for receiving a single text.

public mobile here

my current ee deal gives free roaming in US & Canada (no extra cost) - but I don't know if its still available.

3 used to be the go-to for (continental) US roaming - that'd be my first port of call - local sims are goo but a bit of a faff compared to one that roams for free

I'm going to Canada shortly for a few weeks.

Currently with EE on a contract - for an extra £10 for the monthly billing period I can use my minutes, texts and data (up to 15gb) like i would at home. Bargain, and less hassle.

I wont be going mad on it, but handy to have for emergencies or looking up stuff online for example.

Not sure if this extends to maybe their PAYG SIMs and then just pick one of them up.

Three. Add £10 credit, convert it to an add-on, unlimited voice and text and 2GB of data almost anywhere.

Our daughter is out there at the moment and then the US and gone with the extra £10 with EE, we have an unlocked phone for if its ever needed but not worth the hassle over £10 as Im sure it will be used. unlimited texts and calls and up to 15 gb data which is their roaming fair usage policy.

bookmarked for daughter who will be there for 5 months so she may be best getting a SIM over there. BC - what are the best offerings does anyone have experience?

Thanks, I will check EE. A colleague used Three in the US recently, but when I checked it appears not to cover Canada?

I'd double check this, my mates are on EE and got hammered in Whistler this ski season. I'm on o2 and my roaming didn't work properly either. One friend was on Vodaphone and his was perfect. I did inquire in a couple shops about prepaid sims but didn't find anything worth doing.

On our last EE contract (upgraded last month) you could have European roaming or Worldwide roaming. We opted for European and then upgraded Abigales when she was on travels. Last time was for New Zealand and Tasmania earlier this year. On the new contract the Worldwide isn't available however the £10 per month has replaced this for us. Its even set up to self cancel the day she arrives back.

I've spoken to EE customer services this very day. They, for the sum of £10 have allowed me to use my calls, texts and data (up to 15gb!) in Canada for the month. Like Tracey says, you can set it up to cancel on a set day.
