You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So I moved into a room, and signed an agreement form. One of the rules was that it is a six month lease minimum. A few days after I moved in, I just found it really boring. It's a self contained appartment with it's own door thats built into a family home, and enough room to store bikes which was key for me. But living on my own with no housemates doesn't do it for me. So I want to move out now.
I've sent the landlady two text messages (two days ago) and one email yesterday explaing my feelings and asking if it would be ok if I find someone else for the room and move out , but no word from her at all.
What position am I in if I move out without her consensis? Will I get someone running after me with a big stick?
It's in Cananda by the way, not sure if the laws are different over here.
Anyone ever been in the same boat?
If you've signed something to say you'll be there for 6 months then you'll be obliged to pay the rent for 6 months.
But most landlords/landladies will probably be fine about it if you find someone else to move in and pay the rent (as long as the new person is OK) as they're still getting the money.
If you move out without agreeing an alternative with the landlady you'll be liable to cover the rent (and I assume any costs she has to incur to force you to pay if you didn't pay!)
(live in a shared house in the UK and someone had to move out midway through the agreed period)
Commitment
given that 6 months is actually quite a short time I'd try living with it, that should avoid any financial complications and 'few days' doesn't sound like you've really given it a go, if it's anything like the uk you'll be looking after 4.5 months anyway.....
(*Don't know Canada laws but you've signed a presumably legally binding agreement and you don't need a bad reference for your next place...)
Maybe you could try suggesting a financial payment to allow mutually agreed termination - ie like loose deposit etc .....
You need to check Canadian law. I could explain English law for you but its could be very different, and your rights/options will be reliant on the rules/regulations over there.
text and emails suggest you know you're in the wrong, so why not phone her?

I have been communicating with here by text and email in the past, not sure why she isn't getting back to me.
I asked if I could move out on about the 20th of the month and get someone else for the room for the 1st of the next month so she isn't left out of pocket.
Grow up?
Try sticking it more that a couple of days? You could move in with a psycho instead and that would be much worse. Try and find other things to do in the evening/weekends and you might be glad of the peace
Walk around naked and think how great it is to be alone!
Get a life outside of the place.
I had a housemate who needed constant babysitting etc and I let him out of his contract as I was sick of his self pitty lol
watch Pacific Heights & then be grateful for what you've got 😉
Fake your own death.
I wouldn't have an issue with you moving out, I'd keep you'd deposit though for ****ing me about. I'm sure the owner of the property wouldn't trust you to find a reliable tennent.
Sounds like this could be your chance to live like The Fonz!
And then you'll find a room in a house, occupied by 6 a$seholes, and will dream of living on your own, where you can come and go as you please, without the noise of dry humping coming through the walls, or black sabbath at 3:00 am, or weird drop doap dealing in mates of the people you have come to loathe......
I don't think at 6 days you've really given it a good shot, have you? Or do you envisage NEVER buying a property? Can't you go out or dont you have any mates who might actually want to escape round yours for a sess on the xbox to get away from the missus/others?
I's say MTFUor own the land lady with bombers after weeing inher shoes,as standard STW advice.
I live on my own. Its bliss. Other people piss me off for spells longer than an evening...
