A couple of years ago I changed jobs from being a Senior Applications analyst of an IT Service Management tool, which I knew really well and had been heavily involved in its implementation, development and support. The new role was at the same grade but with Line Management responsibilities and working on a high profile CRM service using MS Dynamics. In the 2 years I haven’t had the best induction to it for various reasons and I’m still not taken with it.

My current role has been promoted to Service Manager and there is a lot of exciting, though challenging opportunities coming up in this area, and there’s a real opportunity for shaping the service management of the application, as well as technical opportunities.

However, there is a vacancy doing the same thing with my old job, but also managing other support applications such as JIRA where I have much more knowledge, and would have a much bigger influence on what happens, and the rate of change would be faster as the stakeholder landscape is much smaller, I also see the opportunity for influencing a review of the use of the ITSM tool, e.g. get rid and replace. The systems support the processes within the department I work (IT) and there will always be opportunities in this area regardless of the application used.

My heart says go back to the old service, my head says stay where I am. The pay is the same in both roles.
