Well... our school have just announced they are tomorrow because of broken heating.

Is that the first one of the winter?

(We are in NE England, it's a bit wet but not particularly cold right now).

Not lookin like snow here in Vegas. We've actually had a nice welcome into winter. Still around 65 during the day but the wind chill can make it feel like 30 some days! Usually nice to go for a ride around 5 for the sunset.

I've just had a phone call from the Mrs to tell me she's not coming home tonight cos she hasn't got her snow tyres on and its unlikely to be gritted tonight.

Somewhere there is a markting manager who is reading this and sitting, happily congratulating themselves on a job well done.

Ha! you are both right to an extent. There are a couple of road closures nearby due to snowgates being closed and a high risk of disruption warning. She would be driving the Laggan to Spean bridge road and having driven her car with and without snowtyres I can tell you that her car is a pig in the snow without them.
She could get through but she doesn't need to so she wont bother.

Next week is shaping up cold and snowy all over Highland area.

Even Dunblane is due some, plus a couple of days below zero...

yr.no is (wrongly) suggesting -12 in Dunblane and a few cm of snow each day.

Reigate, snowed enough that the grass is only just poking through, was still going the last time I looked out. I'm just wrapping up to go out and buy as much tinned food as I can carry to make sure we last until spring.
