You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So I'm fed up with Facebook, Insta and Google. Cosying up to the nasty orange wannabe dictator aside, they have horrible interfaces and are fickle as hell. Plus an ad on Meta will bring in sales to start with and then tail off - surely it should be the other way round as Facebook is supposed to get better as it 'learns your brand'.
I'm looking for alternatives, so if anyone has any ideas let me know. I've put my first reallocated FB budget into ads on the Singletrack because I know people here have bought FoldnRolls so there must be some product market fit and also I'd rather support the site than faceless corporate America. Is there anywhere else I should try (sites that you spend time on and take ads). Or any other ideas? I think I'm looking at getting back to going to events and distributing leaflets but without masses of time to do that relentlessly.
Also let me know if you see my FoldnRoll ads - you probably won't though because you're logged in but it would be nice to know if you do.
It's not as easy for business at BlueSky because there's no algorithmn but gettting verified is relatively easy using a DNS TXT entry at your website control panel. We've just started and have our website address as the handle for the business. I've posted one thing but one does need to follow and interact manually to start, there are tools available that function like TweetDeck.
The problem I have found with Facebook is that if you pay for maximum clicks (might be called maximum traffic, I can't remember) then you end up getting nearly all bots that do indeed click through to your site but do nothing when they get there, they don't even scroll down the page. A better solution is to pay to maximize a goal such as making a purchase or even just scrolling down the page as that should help Facebook learn what the genuine traffic is. That probably involves using something like Google Tag Manager as an intermediary to help you create the correct sort of triggers to send to Facebook.
I was shocked at just how much junk traffic you get from FB rhough
I had maximise purchase as a goal but as above, I choose my audience and get sales then they drop off. I had an ad that FB 'learnt my audience' and after initial success started sending women over 65 to see it. Zero sales from them. I'm sure they loved my little videos but my experience is that people buy my F&Rs for cycling to work or for going to conferences and other short trips where they don't want to pack a suit case. So I am not sure exactly why FB was sending my ads to the retired demographic. Either that or my copy / art work is wildly wrong...
Will look at Bluesky and try and work out how to have a business account - I've only got a personal one at the moment.
Is it just Google or the actual company Alphabet?
Remember Google also owns YouTube, Android OS and Fitbit.
I tried to avoid Google but I have to have a Google log in for YouTube but I watch that through Opera as for now it blocks the adverts through the video. I mainly use Apple, Safari but still use Google search. I tried Duck Duck Go but imo Google search is better.
I know Apple still kissed trumps arse but I’ve not liked Google for a few years.
I just had to Google FoldnRoll, not something I would ever purchase tbh
As a non paid person, I’ve never seen an ad here, but then ads are pointless anywhere imo, I never look at them just immediately look for the ‘x’
That’s a pretty odd product to start appearing on peoples FB Streams. I get mtb stuff and football, not sure where your product fits in to any pigeon hole apart from maybe people who love suitcases as a hobby ?
