Are you still trying to do major mileage, or have you laid off a bit? You sound like I get when I'm completely run down and need a rest.

I've had a bad cold from Xmas and as soon as I do any draining exercise my cough comes back and so does my headache. Pain in the butt.

Sounds like your immune system is weak at the moment. Definitely the right thing to back off, perhaps skip the commute on poorer weather days ?

Longest ride done this year yesterday. As an auld asthmatic I have struggled the past few years with similar ailments. I have cut down on night rides and on my short commute wear a buff over my mouth to counteract car pollution and in recent years the increasing smoke/smog from "renewables"... ie the fracking fashion of fitting multi fuel burners/opening up old fire places 😈 my town, Dumfries, is supposed to be a "smokeless zone". You can't see or breathe for the blue haze over the town..........

Been ill since end of November.
Lost my voice for 3 weeks over Christmas and had around 4 weeks off work.
My voice is still not at its best
Had a bad cough all that time and still have it. Also had bronchitis and laryngitis.
Seen 2 different docs, 8 different kind of prescription dugs, blood tests and X-rays.
Still don't know what's wrong with me and off to a specialist tomorrow.

Riding does help and getting 20+ miles a week

Don't even keep it to a minimum, cut out all riding until you feel better. It sounds like you are immune compromised.

http://www.bases.org.uk/exercise-immunity-and-infection

Post-exercise immune function depression is most pronounced when the exercise is continuous, prolonged (>1.5 hours), of moderate to high intensity (55-75% of aerobic capacity), and performed without food intake (Gleeson, 2006). Both aspects of innate immunity (e.g., neutrophil chemotaxis, phagocytosis, degranulation and oxidative burst activity and natural killer cell cytoxic activity) and acquired immunity (e.g., toll-like receptor expression and antigen presentation by monocytes/ macrophages; T lymphocyte cytokine production and proliferation, immunoglobulin production by B lymphocytes) are depressed by prolonged exercise. The salivary secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) response to acute exercise is variable, though very prolonged bouts of exercise are commonly reported to result in decreased SIgA secretion (Bishop & Gleeson, 2009). The causes of immune depression after prolonged exercise are thought to be related to increases in circulating stress hormones (e.g., adrenaline and cortisol), alterations in the pro/antiinflammatory cytokine balance and increased free radicals.

I had some kind of flu virus from mid Nov to mid Jan,only really getting over it now.I've done 20 miles on the road bike today,15 miles last thurs.
Until last weekend I reckon I did less than 60 miles in total since early November,I've lost all my fitness but I'm just glad to get back on the bike

Just getting over a bad cold combined with blocked ears. Thought I had an infection until I got these out...not the penny - that's for scale.

I know the feeling and it's not pleasant at all. The end of last year / start of this year were a write off. I smacked my coccyx in a stupid commuting accident and couldn't even sit comfortably for a month, then flu, then a cold that lasted a month! Finally back to decent health but my fitness is shocking now. Thankfully got a new job with plenty of commuting miles and some easily accessible extended routes, which is nice.

Ear jam. The smaller of the two is from the ear that didn't work. Think it was affecting the drum.

Hot, hot bath and a pipette. Was either that or 8 more days of olive oil before the district nurse for a syringing. I suspect I would have gone postal before that.

Tis the season for it. Kidney Infection in December, turned out to be a stone that had been lodged. Eventually passed. Two weeks of agony and vomiting from the pain.

Beginning of January we shut a bay (4 beds due to Squits and Vomiting) tried my best to stay hand washed but it struck me down a week later.

And this week Sinusitis. Managed to shift it. But no riding this week o bit miffed.

Had the flu like thing before christmas, still not shaken it and had a massively annoying cough ever since. Thursday felt crap, Friday had a very, long day at work and now I feel like I've been run over.

Throat feels like I have pharyngitis and nearly threw up a few times last night with the coughing. Ears are throbbing, splitting headache and everything else just aches as well

Just spent 25 minutes on the phone to the doctors and the earliest appointment I could get is 16:20. Tomorrow 🙁

Sick and tired of being sick and tired

Not been on the bike for over a month due to one thing or another - biggest problem is my asthma gets quite bad when the temperature drops, and I don't see the point in going out for a couple of hours, to then spend the rest of the day weezing.

Going to try and get out this weekend though.. have my first 'sportive' in 7 weeks.

Lyme Disease and then a broken rib did for me at the end of last year. Just trying to get fitness back now in time for D&G weekend and then the Etape Loch Ness.

Not just me then. 4 weeks now, started with a sort of flu/cold, hacking cough, hot sweats, knackered, briefly surfaced last weekend then sore throat and fast forward cold which seems to be abating now. Having another week of R&R from exercise bar short commute to see if that helps.

Probably best we all chat online given how infectious you all are.
Sore throat today, working from bed.
Saw snowdrops on the ride yesterday so spring shouldnt be far off.
