Hi people,
We're heading to the shropshire hills at the half term and we're taking bikes. We're staying in the telford/Ironbridge area and probably have 3 or 4 days for riding. If anyone recommend any spots/trails less than an hour from there(or atttach a link) it would be great! One of the days I'm going to hopton to meet a friend but any opinions on eastridge/haughton hill/shelve/stiperstones. I've heard about the wrekin/ercall which is very close to us so if anyone could recommend a route there it would be very helpful. Thanks!🤘

Eastridge is great. The ride from there to Stiperstones and back is great too. There's a few awesome descents off Stiperstones, well, certainly one anyway.

The long Mynd is good too. Minton Batch descent. Hopton .Bucknell, Bringewood and Mortimer Forest all epic. 👍

Shrops rocks.

As above;

Hopton is awesome, as is Eastridge. Long Mynd, stiperstones, some good bits on the Wrekin, cannock chase is pretty good for the lack of elevation it has. Love LLandegla but that's more like 1hr 20 away.

I am semi retired and moved to Shropshire 3 and bit years ago and live inside the Shropshire hills AONB. Still finding my way around, but Hopton and the Long Mynd are my current favourites. Mortimer forest is very near me and I have found some great runs there, but they are dotted about and difficult to join up. I'm sure there is a lot more there, I just haven't found it yet. I don't know anyone locally who rides, so I have to explore on my own, but that's good fun. I have just found out that Pearce cycles do midweek shop rides in Mortimer and Hopton, so hope to tag along and see some more trails. Not been to Eastridge yet, but will rectify that soon.

I have a son in Liverpool and a daughter in Bristol who both ride, so weekends often see me at Llandegla or FoD to meet up with them. They and Cannock are all about an hour and a half from me. Places I've not been to yet which are near or nearish include: Radnor forest; Wyre Forest; Dyfi and Mid Wales generally. I don't want to be too smug, but it's a great place to live if you are a mountain biker!

Some great riding on the Wrekin.

Not really the type of place were a route can be recommended.
More a case of just head up the main track to the top then pick a trail that heads down...
There's plenty of them and loads of fun to be had if you're ok with steep stuff.

If you're after a guide I can recommend Craig from Muddy Cwtch. My parents live in Church Stretton and I booked a day with him once to avoid blundering around checking my phone/GPS all the time..

I’m only 1 mile from Mortimer forest and Bringewood so can point you in the right direction in this part of the world 🙂
There is miles of quality trail fairy built singletrack, 90% of which is very hard to find unless you know where !

Save me starting a new thread I’ll ask on here....

The Wrekin, I’ve only ever done the main track up and down, however if I take the main track up is the path that goes from the top and down the other side (towards the SW) rideable all the way?

The best downhills off The Wrekin are when you're facing the old cooling towers.

Cooling towers? The ones that are currently being demolished?

thing is, with their delicate colouring you can hardly see them. they just blend in so well

They're still standing, but won't be for long, the demolition crews have been gearing up on site for the last few weeks. I think it's a matter of days before demo starts.

I live locally and I'll be sad to see them disappear.

I plan on doing a few rides in the Long Mynd area, anyone recommend a bike friendly b&b?

Not strictly BnB but there are camping pods behind blazing bikes at the long mynd.

Bike shop, nice pub on site, and easy start/finish to riding the mynd.

Close to the 49 too so easy to explore the other trails in the area if you want.
