I'm on number 3 since March

They seem to be ok for a while then get sticky then the cord snaps

I've tried screwfix and B&Q ones

Are any of them better than others?

Any alternatives?

I had this, 4 in a year from Homebase. I just leave the isolator on now, it doesn't chew up much energy from the shower led anyhoo.

Check the wiring is OK and that it's not overheating, weakening the plastic, causing it to fail.
I noticed that our isolator switch was getting hot recently while the shower was being used. It turned out one of the screws had some loose, the poor connection was increasing the resistance and the whole thing was getting very hot.

I leave ours on also. I turn it off when we go away for a few days

They put a lot of load through the switch when turning them on and off so it saves electrical problems also

screwfix and B&Q

Stop buying cheap rubbish - go to a proper Electrical wholesaler and get some quality equipment.

I've had the same with our light pull, got through 3 in as many months. I suspect TEEF is right in my case, they are cheep units I bought from Wilko's and B&Q. I have on the most recent one stripped it as far as I could and sprayed a bit of furniture polish inside and it works like a dream now.

I thought the big retailers sold the same stuff as everyone else?

Where would sell a better quality switch?

In every town there's an Electrical wholesaler where all the electricians go to buy cable, light fittings, switches, etc. They're usually located on an industrial estate or some grotty back street.

I always default to MK electrical fittings, most places (Wickes, B&Q, etc.) will stock them.

Won't go wrong with MK. I think Volex are a slightly cheaper brand of theirs but also decent enough quality. Though I'm not convinced the switch quality will help snapping cords! Bit of old climbing rope?

Is there a reason to switch off at the isolator each time?

Ours has been 'on' since the day it was installed.
