Just fit some of these:

Shower bar valve fixing

Can't find any information on whether I need to seal the chrome cover plate. Anyone know? Or do I just cover the screw heads in silicone first?

As long as you’ve sealed the hole as the pipes go through the tile and the holes for the wall plugs/screws well then you should be good. I always use stainless or brass screws mind, so don’t daub them in silicone.

You could seal the tops of the shrouds if it makes you happy, but leave a gap at the bottom as water will get in no matter what, so you want it to be able to get out again!

Are they the ones you fit and then tile over leaving the threaded section sticking out to fit the shower bar to?

If so, you will seal around the hole in the tile to make taht waterproof, so the cover plate doesn't need to be selaed. Or are these the ones that fit onto the tile with just the water pipe coming through? Either way the hole through the tile should be sealed properly, but when drilling into tiles I always fill the hole with sealant before putting the plug in.

I like these ones though as the spacing is always right. pic shows them upside down for some reason....

It's on a laminate shower board. I sealed round the pipes first. Each mount is bolted onto the board using M5 bolts and self locking nuts as there's no brick behind that part. Nice tight fit but the boards are wooden so don't want any water getting in.

Good idea about a hole at the bottom for drainage. Didn't think about that.
