Extra points for peasants in the background or a chap in a bearskin.
Are extra points awarded for actually using the term SUV in actual conversation (points halved if you do live in California, obviously)?
And a massive bonus for if you paid twenty grand over the odds for a VW because someone stuck the wrong badge on the front of it?

I also have an estate car
Fascinating most SUV's are bought for image and fashion according to the other thread, yet so few want to share a pic of thiers.... 😉
I don't have any pictures really as most owned pre mobile phone cameras
Shogun lwb * 2 (mid/late 90's models)
Rav4 (2000 model)
In the market again for something similar (small 4x4)
Can easily handle this technical gravel situation, worth every penny.

Mate did borrow it to move a sofa yesterday, does that count as utility?
Not mine but i have the same...
Bikes are a sport..... inside its pretty utilitarian and its a vehicle.....
It can handle a fair gravel situation(forestry comission vehicle of choice)
and its handy as **** for picking up medium sized things such as washingamchines - engines , gearboxes etc.
most socalled SUVs are just medium hatchbacks on stilts and the GP lap them up - i guess higher is safer for tarquin.
Fascinating most SUV's are bought for image and fashion according to the other thread, yet so few want to share a pic of thiers..
That went wrong when photos pf them being used for their purpose were requested. It's Good Friday so no school runs.
You seem to be posting vans and 4x4 not SUVs.
I'm liking the lack of posewagons so far.
"A sport utility vehicle (SUV, sometimes called a sports utility wagon) is a vehicle similar to a station wagon or estate car that is usually equipped with four-wheel drive for on-road or off-road ability."
Thats a fairly open definition
so whats dracs definition then ?
so whats dracs definition then ?
I asked for a definition on the other thread and it wasn't fothcoming. That Wikipedia extraction is incomplete and the full paragraph does nothing to clear thing up either.
Personally I don't consider our 4x4 to be an SUV as it has low range and is designed for offroading with acceptable on road handling. An SUV, to me, is essentially a road car that may have 4wd and allow ocassional softroading.
A 4wd drive estate is an out and out road car offering better grip on the road.
I accept that other opinions exist and are equally wrong, but probably is aligned with drac's view. 😀
Well not a T4 or Range Rover for a start.
They are my (sports) utility vehicles 🙂
And it's a T5 👿
Sorry.
Or a face lifted T4. 😀
so post an example of an SUV then.......
i do take it back apparently what i have is
"A leisure activity vehicle (abbreviated LAV) is a small van, generally related to a supermini or subcompact car, with two or three seat rows, and a large, tall car boot and tailgate. An early example of the category was the Matra Rancho introduced in 1977. They have become popular in Europe in the 1990s as a cheaper and roomier alternative to small family cars."
does leisure become a "sport" when you compete in said leisure activity ? are soft roading(driving across a field) to get to the venue is part and parcel ?
Holy grey areas batman , the pedant meter is off the chart.
I've got a '08 Ford Kuga. It's been good for the schools runs for seven years, and still got them there in the snow.
Showing its age though, currently deciding whether to keep it for bamgernomics or trust Mrs K to a posher SUV or 3 series estate.
Well not a T4 or Range Rover for a start.
There are no cars more suv than a range rover.
ah i see .... 2 door hatch back on stilts....
This is an SUV by name - a very shit one as it wasnt very utility - it was tiny - it had low range gearing and had tiny back seats... but then most SUVs are crippled in some way i guess look at whats availible.
+1 on the range rover - bourn out of the need to go offroad in style to shoot some grouse and then drive on road back to your mansion. mostly now seen driving kids school.
There are no cars more suv than a range rover.
A Range Rover is/was a useful 4x4 a SUV is more your Quashquai and the likes.

and who decided that ?
The Range Rover is a full size four-wheel drive sport utility vehicle (SUV) also with extensive off road capabilities, produced by Land Rover, and serves as its flagship model. Land Rover is one of several auto manufacturers owned by Tata, the Indian multinational conglomerate Tata Group.
fyi.

Not according to everyone else in the world.
You're thinking of softroaders. A recent invention.
No I'm really not.
Nah! He drove something else altogether.
No I'm really not
Don't make me go all wiki on you. 😆

Fascinating most SUV's are bought for image and fashion according to the other thread, yet so few want to share a pic of thiers....POSTED 3 HOURS AGO #
Sorry, I was out in my new BMW so wasn't waiting hoping that I could post. Picture of mine. Now I'm back, but I've realised I've never taken a picture of any car I've owned, and the Touareg is currently pulling a horse box to some bloody Easter egg hunt for pony club, and even it were here, I don't have any kind of picture account to be able to post it.
Sod it, I'm going back out to smell the new leather.
Hmmm! Tinybits owns a BMW SUV. 😉
I now know putting a bike on the back of a vehicle some stuff in the back makes it a utility vehicle.
Meanwhile over on tasteless SUV track world:

Argh - still cant image link.
He has somewhere to put his iPhone. Is that the definition of a SUV?
Oh give it a rest!
The colour of the interior is 'interesting' ...

+10 points for driving on dead flat surfaces you could get any car on.
Not a lot of love on Pinkbike for that car...
I'd definitely accept an AMG G-wagon, but I'd feel like a pillock driving it. Someone I (sort of) know has one - the most mild -mannered and humble guy you could meet, very unassuming when you meet him. And then he starts that up and - oh - the noise! 😀
I almost think G-wagons are cool. Way more so than a Cayenne/Q7/Bentaga etc.
Here's our Qashqai after a big dump overnight in Argentière.

Didn't the term SUV start off referring to a chunky pickup truck but with a posher interior, popular with younger Americans for an "outdoor" lifestyle. Merkans didn't really have cars like Range Rovers (apart from the Jeep line) until quite recently. The term has now come to mean any car styled like a four wheel drive, though most of them (quite sensibly) have dropped the actual 4x4 aspect in the interests of weight and fuel economy.
