So I decided to go Dry for Jan - March. Part of this was to help lower my weight for racing, part just to reduce my alchohol content.

I've achieved both targets, am tired, stressed, alone for a lie in tomorrow (rare opportunity), and could really relax with a couple of glasses of the unopened bottle Bombay Sapphire that's staring at me.

Thing is, to do so feels like I've "failed" at something. 😐

It doesn't really relax you.

was an arbitrary period anyway

do what you want to do - can always go dry again from tomorrow if you feel the need

I've been tricking myself recently.

If I find myself feeling a bit 'thirsty' in the evening, I've had a cup of tea, mint/ red bush/ whatever. Instead of booze.

There's some degree of 'ritual' involved in making a cup of tea; choosing just the right mug, boiling just the right amount of water, watching the colour slowly infuse, etc.

It's simple, and I'm over egging it somewhat, but it really does seem to tick the right boxes in my head that make we think I want alcohol.

If you do have a couple it's not a disaster,as scaredypants said you can start again tomorrow However it's better to deal with the cause of the stress and tiredness than to mask the symptoms.

Surely you can make one decision without online validation.

I have managed to exchange the alcohol for crisps, blue cheese, biscuits, more blue cheese etc. I must be the only person ever to give up booze and put weight on.
Stick to it Kryton, we have to stand together

Crikey where did that come from?

I make lots of decisions every day, which is why my head is spinning now - new job, mentally very tired, Crewe indoor loafing clothes on.

And a glass of fizzy water.

I've given up on gin. Find it just wrecks my sleep. Gives me the mild horrors. Might go and make myself a white russian though. The dude abides.

I've been off it for January too, but its my birthday weekend so to hell with it. Bottle of red tonight, pizza on its way, and a day down Cardiff tomorrow. Yeehaa. 😛

As has already been mentioned, dry January etc is just an arbitrary measure. If you want to lose weight that's one thing, if feel you have an issue with alcohol that's another. My view for what it's worth if you fancy a gin, have a gin 🙂
