The 'global Jihad' seems to be gathering pace. Can only be a matter of time before something nasty happens over here again; I think I'll be doing my Christmas shopping on line this year.

Edit; Oh dear. It looks like it is. Horrid.

Are you a tabloid headline writer? No info and no conclusions to jump to either.

Sadly I think you're right, It's only a matter of time before something happens here in the uk.

From what it sounds like on the BBC website it doesn't sound good in Paris.

Just sayin'.

Just sayin' what? That I had the news pop up on my screen while I was reading the 'sad building' thread, and I decided to post my initial thoughts on it? I'm sorry, I thought this was a discussion forum. I must have missed the rule that says a certain amount of time must be waited before posting about current affairs. :-/

Mixed reports about the Eagles of Death Metal concert: some reports saying people have escaped, but I've just read a tweet by someone claiming to be there that (according to my schoolboy French) translates as "they slaughtered everybody".

Grim.

But I love the humanity of #porteouverte

For anyone with loved ones in Paris I hope they're all safe.

Any word on motive?

You have to ask? A coordinated attack in a European capital city on an unprecedented scale resulting in many deaths? I don't think we're going to be staggered when we find out the motive or the ideological persuasion of the perpetrators.

Europe needs to wake up - this is very much the ghost of Christmas future.

The tragic events unfolding this evening in Paris and the evacuation of the French President from a stadium with bombs going off all around is terrible news for La France and the French - but this is a long overdue reality check on the compatability of political Islam with modern democratic secular society.

I asked about motive because while I suspected I didn't know.

I believe Europe needs to deal with the problems presented by Islam, Islamification and the integration of Muslims into the continents broadly secular societies.

The closing of borders is a necessary step only because we've let things progress this far. I agree with both duntstick and just5 above. :/

Once there's a confirmation that this is being perpetrated by Islamists, then you can start victim blaming. Until then keep it decent, eh?

Looking at the footage on i-télé from Stade de France I reckon about 5% are Muslim, Madame was out this evening and the Muslim proportion about the same. Millions of Muslims, Christians and people of other religions live in France and we all get along just fine. It's a tiny minority of extremists attacking the whole population.

These attacks make conditions for the vast majority of the Islam community worse; suspicion, distrust, discrimination and the threat of revenge are the price peaceful Muslims pay for the actions of the minority.

Just about everyone in the liberal left rounded on the author of this book when it was published 9 years ago - it was described as wildly inflammatory. Now it just looks conservative in its prediction of what might happen in the future of the U.K. and Europe.

You know what; let's not.

Oh god. One of the lasting tragedies of this event will be the ammunition it will give to the 'kippers, the 'Britain Fursts' and the worse. Previously socially unacceptable opinions are going to become commonplace, and the polarisation of society will continue. They'll feel newly emboldened to peddle their brand of evil and we'll all suffer. This isn't going to end well. I'm going to bed.

Sad sad times. So far no bad news personally of Friends and family there. We've been making a lot of phone calls and texts. Have family who love just a street away but where safely indoors

PLEASE lets speculate another day/tihread

FFS JY get your head out of your arse. Holland, Obhama and Cameron have all declared its a terrorist incident with gunman shouting Alah Akbar whilst shooting from a car and driving off. We are on French TV now and all the reports are of large numbers of casualties and gunmen with automatic weapons

It was only a few weeks ago the gunman in the train was foiled. Paris has been full of armed troops since Charlie Ebdo, it's going to be on a war footing now.

FFS JY get your head out of your arse

I am happy to debate the causes/perpetrators but thought it better if this thread was just to express concern whilst it was ongoing rather than have a personal/ political/religious ding dong in an STW style. Lets keep it classy and not do this basically

I repeat the appeal, with another please.

or of you prefer lets speculate away whilst lives are still at risk and insult each other as we do. What better way is there to show our concern for those at risk than a bicker 😕

The stw holier than thou's are in full swing as you'd predict.
Sometimes if it looks, walks and talks like a murderous bigoted ideology with no place in a modern secular culture thats just what it is. Defending it is as bad as pulling the trigger.

Defending it is as bad as pulling the trigger.

Using it to attack an entire religion or race makes you as bad as them.

'Religion' is too narrow a description, but 'race' is just dumb.

'As bad as them' is simply ludicrous.

I don't think talking cobblers on a website is as bad as killing people (which is lucky for many on here, particularly me).

It is a shame that dealing with the problem means that you're a loon National Front Ukiper.

This needs to be addressed sensibly by everyone in society, working towards a common cause and being seen to do so.

Tonight is awful, I hope it gets better in the future

Ach, I'm not going to argue. Just think about why they've done this. Don't you think they're trying to stir up exactly the kinds of reactions some people on this thread are exhibiting?

Attacking Islam or Muslims for this plays perfectly into their hands.

I suspect those on this thread posting anti-Muslim/Islam comments are baptised. But do you apply the teachings in Leviticus to the letter? I hope not and you'll soon wind up in jail if you do. Some of the verses in the Koran are an incitement to hatred in the same way as the verses in Leviticus but moderate Muslims don't live by them any more than moderate Christians.

The problem lies with those who use religion as a means to build a power base that they then abuse. Call it Islam, Christianity, communism, fascism, national socialism, Scientology or whatever you want. It's just a belief system that's used to push people into doing unto others what they wouldn't find acceptable without the belief system.

How many death in total? More than 100?

It's just a waste of time to observe the sleeper cells as they are just going to grow.

Just do it the old fashion ways by making them disappear if they are truly in the process of carrying out atrocity. Deal with that first then let the lawyers argue later on ...
