Its ridiculous. People makes jokes about women having loads of shoes but I think most men are just as bad. Trying to to a tidy at home and I am amazed.
I have
Trainers / skate shoes x 3: "Smart" (i.e. the new pair), everyday pair and riding pair so as not to destroy everyday pair too quickly.
Wellies. Everyone needs wellies.
Work boots, steel toecaps. Probably only warn a couple of times over the last two years but worth keeping for a change in job or working outside more.
Work shoes x2. Steel toecaps. Worn most work days. One pair kept at work and one in my travel bag when I work away.
"Smart shoes" x 2. One Brown one black for the odd time I need.
SPD shoes x 3. Winter, summer (nearly had it) and a pair I never got on with that well but good more casual riding and as a backup for when the summer shoes fully die.
Walking shoes x2. Winter gortex lined ones that were too hot in the summer so I bought some summer super ventilated ones.
Running shoes. For the odd time I do the most horrible of activities.
Flip flops. For chilling intit.
That is 16! Maddening but all are used.
Can anyone beat that!
I have no idea. I don't keep a shoe inventory.
16?
Amateur..
2 x work
2 x trainers
2 x pumps
1 x rigger boots
2 x smart boots
1 x hiking boots
2 x SPDs
2 x flip flop
1 x barefoot thingies
1 x ski boots
so at least 16, probably more
no towcaps in my collection. 😯
I have no idea. I don't keep a shoe inventory.
Neither did I until I was trying to do a little reorganisation. So much crap.
I wear my fivetens all day every day to work and on the bike, one spare pair of old trainers if they're wet, walking boots, snowboard boots and wellies.
Can anyone beat that!
I'll check tonight, that'll give me something to look forward to.
No steelies though as I'm not common 🙂
I have no wellies
One pair of smart black shoes
One pair of smart brown shoes
6 x trainers(3 x running, 1 pair badminton, 2 x general gym)
6 x cycle shoes (road, mtb summer, mtb winter, spin, & 2 skate style mtb)
5 x climbing/walking shoes and boots
3 x skate shoes
2 x neoprene boots/shoes for the kayak
2 x flip flops
1 x teva sandals
and a pair of slippers if we're counting indoor footwear.
and probably a couple more that I've forgotten.
So somewhere between 25-30 pairs all together and in a normal week I probably wear 3.
I've been clearing out but still am left with:
6 pairs just for cycling 😆
2 pairs of running shoes (one road, one trail)
Snowboard boots
Climbing shoes
3 pairs of smart/work shoes (black pair I'm wearing out, their replacements plus a brown pair, hardly ever worn)
"Everyday" trainers
Steel toecap boots (bought for a course, only occasionally worn)
Wellies
Comfy but beaten-up Merrells for pottering about in the garden or workshop, or for muddier walks.
Cheap espadrilles that are covered in paint
Flip flops for holidays
Crocs (don't judge) to keep by the front door for putting bins out and stuff
So that's up to 20. I'm sure there's more I've forgotten about.
1 pair work shoes.
4 pairs 5 tens
(1 pair of worn out dirt bags as house slippers)
(1 pair free riders as muddy riding shoes)
(1 pair canvas free riders for best)
(1 pair Sleuths also for best)
1 pair walking boots
Fairly minimal really but still more than Mrs Wachowchow.
1 black leather smart pair
2 brown leather less smart/casual pairs
1 daily wear approach pair
1 pair of steel toecap rigger boots
1 pair of running shoes. Unworn, but good intentions.
3 pairs cycling shoes
3 or maybe 4 pairs climbing shoes
1 pair of winter walking boots
1 pair of biohazard sandals
1 pair of neoprene boots
So 16, as per the OP. But really most are sports or work equipment, so I think I only really have 4 pairs for comparison purposes.
Amateurs !
I'll qualify this list by saying that I used to spend a lot of time in the hills and won't throw things away.
Pairs not individuals!
SPD shoes x6
3 bolt road cycling x1
Cycling flats x1
Plastic mountaineering x2
Ski Mountaineering x1

Riggers x1
Flipflops/Tevas x4
Casual/smart leather boots/Timberlands x3
Smart leather shoes for school/funerals etc x7
Motocross boots x4
Slipper x2
Total 64 and I am damn sure I have missed a few pairs.
Oh, and the Crocs x2 so 66!
I'm not counting, but 16 would probably account for the shoes in the porch, before moving on to shoe rack shoes, wardrobe shoes, those shelves at the top of the cellar shoes and the ones under the bed.
I found some trainers in the wardrobe I forgot I had, so too many. (I blame Sport Pursuit!)
I have somewhere between 60 and 70 pairs. I used to get given shoes by the manufacturers, which was great, but having so many pairs means you never wear any out so they just accumulate. I have unworn shoes from 10 years ago probably. I did give a bunch to charity when we moved house.
Oh yes, this thread is right in my field of interest. Brace yourselves, this may take a while...
Formal shoes, black - 4
Formal shoes, oxblood - 2
Formal shoes, brown - 3 (2 of which are on the casual side of smart)
Formal shoes, tan - 2
Casual trainers - 5
casual boots - 2
Converse or similar - 4
Flip-flops - 4
Sandals - 1
And now we enter the "active" section
Running shoes, road - 5
Running shoes, off road - 2
Football boots - 4
Walking boots - 2
Cricket boots - 2
Cycling shoes, road - 3
Cycling shoes, off road - 2
Wellies - 1
Ski boots - 1
Approach shoes - 1
Skate shoes - 1
That makes 51 pairs and I am pretty sure I've forgotten some too.
Um,
Work shoes
Going out shoes
Walking boots
Wellies
Chukka boots
Nice home trainers
Tatty home trainers
Work trainers
Trainers by the back door for going in the garden in
Trainers in the garage for use as slippers x 2
Good running shoes
Less good running shoes
Trail running shoes
Walking shoes
So 15 before I get the riding shoes, my god.
Teva links
Some cheap sports direct Velcro jobs for the wet
Some airwalk hitops for... don’t know really, maybe cold
AM45s
Spesh MTB Comp
Diadora vortex pro
Shimano MW 5
Shimano RO82(?) Road shoes
Flipping heck, that’s 23 pairs I think. I think I could do with a clear out.
Edit - just read further up the thread and feel better. Still I thought I’d have about 7 pairs
I collect trainers. Probably over 70 pairs at the moment and expecting three more pairs to be delivered tomorrow.
Also have a bunch of nice formal shoes and obv cycling stuff too.
I only own one pair of shoes. Everything else is shandals.
on and on
I collect trainers. Probably over 70 pairs at the moment
Kind of this for me, although I wouldn't say "collector" as that implies they get put on shelves and looked at rather than worn. A few years ago I had over 100 but I sold loads on ebay. Gave 12 pairs to the local homeless shelter last year. Also got around 20 pairs of shoes and boots.
Only 16!
My wife has over 30 pairs (ignoring ski boots and other specialty ones).
Lets see
1x Steel toe cap boots
2x walking boots
1x wellies
2x flat riding boots
1x SPD shoes
1x black shoes
1x smart boots
5x casual trainers
1x running shoes
1x flip flops
on and on

Mine get worn too. Other than the occasional pair that are purchased to flip.
Just found a pair of converse, 2 pairs of holiday trainers and a pair of weird trainers too. So I’m up to 27 now.
Trainers
Best boots
Walking boots
Crocs/slippers
Walking/comfy shoes
Client/wedding/dinner brogues
Funeral brogues
Clearly a beginner. 7 is a great number. I have, coincidentally, exactly the same number pairs of underslacks.
You do realise that any shoe or boot used for an activity I.e. Cycling, running, climbing proper walking (not to the pub) are technically sports equipment and therefore don't count as excessive.
SWMBO's collection of 60+ pairs of shoes on the other hand is a different matter only about half a dozen pairs of the total are running/gym/walking footwear the rest are not practical, I've lost count of the number of near death experiences I've had on the stairs, landing and hallway by inappropriately abandoned footwear.
A trip down memory lane...
You probably don't need to worry too much about having 16 pairs. 😉
9 pairs Vans.
4 pairs walking boots.
2 pairs cycling shoes.
2 pairs posh shoes.
1 pair rock shoes.
1 pair trainers/running shoes.
1 pair Crocs.
I feel a lot better after reading this.
🙂
I'm disappointed with the lack of slippers in the listed inventories. I'm left wondering if underfloor heating is more prevalent on all floors of a home, rather than outdoor shoes being worn indoors?
Was trying to work it out but gave up at 24 pairs. I reckon I'm at about 30 in total.
To reassure the poster above, i have a pair of slippers, they are down north face ones though
At thr last count I have over 100 pairs of shoes, I dread to think how many I have now - I've ordered four pairs from Arthur Knight today!
I will say that I do have around 12 pairs of cycling shoes, both road and mtb. And a few pairs of sport specific shoes I've never thrown away.
My real passion is custom shoes. Had a pair of Cordovan leather boots from Crockett and Jones before Christmas. Took a few months to get made but they are thr comfiest new boots I've ever worn.
I need help.
I don't own any trainers
11x cycling (3 road, 2 flat, 4 mtb spd, 1 cx, 1 winter)
23x trainers
3x gym shoes (weightlifting, crossfit, treadmill)
3x desert boots
2x formal
3x site visit stuff (riggers, steel toe boots, steel toe wellies)
2x flipflops
I need a clearout! Saying that most get worn, though some of the trainers fairly infrequently.
The problem is our my place is that we all have 'work' shoes and casual shoes by the front door. The garage has three shoe racks - tennis/hockey, cycling/rugby, walking/gardening, plus wellies and flipflops (which are stored together!). And then each of us (and there are four of us) have shoes 'hidden' in bedrooms.
We did do a clear out about 6 months ago - but the numbers have grown again. We might have to have a one in - one out policy!
That's nowt .
My missus has a pair for every day since she's been born... 😯
Just remembered 2 more pairs of slippers, one pair of work shoes and a pair of Hunter wellies. 70 then or 72 if you count the wetsuit boots.
I have just realised that with this update I have more pair of shoes than the wife has knickers!
Had a bit of a clear out recently - so less than before but...
2x brown desert boots
1x black bellows boots
1x derby boots black
4x derby shoes black
1x brown DM 8 eyelet boots
1x 3 season walking boots
3x 5.10 Guide Tennies
1x 5.10 Freeriders
1x La Sportiva climbing boots
1x Jack Wolfskin canyoning shoes
2 x Shimano SPD
1x Mavic SPD
5x Vans
3x Pumas
5x Nikes
7x Adidas
1x Converse
This is off the top of my head - I may have missed some trainers tbh
Forgot;
2x running shoes
1x gym trainers
1 x additional pair of Vans I had for Christmas.
I haven't counted, but I reckon I'm somewhere around 30
4 motorcycle boots
2 SPD shoes
2 cycling flat shoes
2 walking boots
5 approach type shoes
6 pairs of trainers
Around 8+ pairs of work shoes (formalish and smarter end of casual)
Blimey, that's quite a lot. Plus things like flipflops, astroturf boots, climbing shoes)
In reality I wear about 6 pairs a lot, and the rest a lot less!
Size 11 shoes are quite large too!
