A local physiotherapists is now offering this service, Shockwave therapy. I've looked at some articles online and am unsure if this is a useful service or electronic snake oil.
Has anyone used it and had any good results?
Interested to know before I part with my hard-earned dough.
Thanks!
Had it as part of some treatment for elbow tendinitis. I stress “part of”. Certainly wasn’t sold as snake oil or the only answer. Overall treatment was successful but couldn’t say it was just down to shockwave.
Blimey my googling has also revealed it can be used for erectile dysfunction!
So I need to clarify my original post - I'm looking to see whether it will help knee/patella pain.
The evidence isn't great but if you believe it works then the ancillary benefits (ie reduced reported pain, increase in activity etc) will help
I looked it up, there's been studies 🙂

Seems to be as good as ultrasound, but obviously has a way cooler name.

After having it on my shoulder, I'd rather not have my genitals pounded by electrical concussion.
I’ve had it for a tendinopathy twice - it didn’t work either time..
There is an an analgesic effect but it doesn’t blast very long.
Personally, I’d advise against it as I think it’s a waste of money.
What’s your injury if you don’t mind my asking?
Thanks @mrlebowski
It's a complicated injury but the current issue I'm having is patellar tendonitis.
I might roll the dice and give it a go just to see.
Understood. I have supra-patella (quad tendon) tendinopathy - the only thing that’s working for me is physio & RT (resistance training).
Oh ok good luck with that. Make sure with any knee injury you have the right diagnosis - I was prescribed physio which made my condition worse, turns out I have an underlying bony problem so being operated on next month. Just looking for something in the meantime to relieve some pain other than ice and rest.
One friend had it from a physio I know and trust. They think it helped. Well that kept running
Another friend said their physio said it's just a pain killer avoid.
In both cases it was the Achilles tendon

Quite!
I had it for plantar fasciitis. It did bugger all.
it can be used for erectile dysfunction!
