Hi has anyone ever shipped anything furniture related to Australia from the UK. I've been asked to send a Welsh Dresser a Sideboard and about a dozen medium size house moving boxes out to Australia. Has anybody any experience of such a task or can you recommend a company that might take this on.

Thank you in anticipation.

We moved to Australia with work for 3 years. We moved a pile of stuff across, including furniture and bikes, etc just using a removal company. I think my company used Pickfords at the time.
If you’re not shipping a full container then you can just pay for part of a container, but you have to wait until they get a container load to send.

Depending on the quantity of stuff you’re sending, it may be worth checking with local removal companies.

I used PSS to ship some boxes and they were excellent. I probably went with them initially on price but communication was good and everything happened when they said it would. This was around 8 years ago though.

comms and service so far have been good . If anyone has horror stories about them please don’t tell , they have all our stuff and I’d rather live in ignorance 😀

Don't be surprised if it sits in Australian customs for months. Although that was probably 15 years ago. It's really annoying when you can see all your lifes belongings have tracked into customs and are just sat there waiting clearance for 4 months before they can be delivered to you.

One of our customers is exactly what you need.
1st Move International.

I have no connection with the business, they are down the road from my work. They did a cracking job for my neighbour when they emigrated to OZ a couple of years ago.

get work to pay for it if you can. most recruitment has a relocation allowance

we sold everything apart from one bike and two bags of clothes and started again. Furniture is available in Australia.

I was going to ask exactly this question. OP, you are me and I claim my five pounds.

I'm keeping a close eye on this thread.

Hello - an Australian here.

When we moved out (10 yrs ago) I got about a dozen companies to quote for shipping our stuff - which was about 15 boxes I think? Not enough to fill a shipping container.

My finding was that most companies quoted you a very low price, but then stacked-on a load of extra costs. By the time you'd added all those extras on, Crown Relocations wasn't quite the cheapest - but it was close enough, so we went with them. Couldn't have been happier - absolutely no fuss/hassle and extremely professional, would use again in a heartbeat.

Don’t be surprised if it sits in Australian customs for months. Although that was probably 15 years ago. It’s really annoying when you can see all your lifes belongings have tracked into customs and are just sat there waiting clearance for 4 months before they can be delivered to you.

Yes, I heard horror stories like that - but ours sailed through (pun intended). We had a few boxes opened and checked - anything remotely outdoorsy gets looked at and checked for mud - but it didn't seem to delay anything.

My understanding is that (because of the recent unpleasantness) shipping prices are exorbitant at the moment - I understand that this is for a customer, but depending on it's sentimental value, they might like to consider whether it's worth shipping things that could be replaced.

I only had a few boxes of stuff sent out ... most of which I shouldn't have bothered with. God knows who with, just looked up online. No great delays through Melbourne or Brisbane.

This thread reminds me of a joke about English people with wardrobes in their garage in Australia. Anyone looking to move over, don't bring your wardrobes 🤣

Fill it with riding gear…

… or, I wonder what it would cost to send back to the UK?

leave it out in the elements for a few months - then dump it on the verge outside your neighbours house for a few weeks in anticipation of the council coming to collect it. Seems to be how it works

We used a Seven seas move cube when we did it the other way. Might not have been the cheapest method but was super convenient. Cube dropped off the day before to load up with the boxes (they sent these through a few days before). We chose to keep in in storage for 2 months as part of the package so we could travel the long way back ourselves.

If/when we move back to WA will probably do the same. Though as mentioned, furniture is available in Oz! Also houses often quite a lot bigger and very different in style so your UK stuff might look a but daft.

Do not use Pickfords, that is from personal experience albeit a US move . My house contents were collected in June and are still in the UK. Totally evasive right up to and including Managing Director who responded to my email almost 4 weeks ago to say he would get back to me in 48 hours then silence despite 2 follow up emails.
