You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Lucky me.
So feel hungover, the rash is interesting and it's like I've been stung by mutant nettles.
Can I hit the rollers or is there an underlying medical reason why this is a bad idea.
I don't think there's any reason you can't go out for a proper ride.
Shingles can sometimes develop after intimate contact with a new partner. What have you been up to?? Eh eh say no more 😉
When I had it I lived by the clock of my pain killer doses and was wiped out for weeks after the persistent pain went. Otoh Mrs P just had a bit of a rash and just got on with a load of work around the house when she had it.
So ride if you want to!
You're infectious up until the rash scabs over (don't pick them). Cover exposed rash with a dressing if you need to mix with polite society otherwise keep away. If you feel like crap it's probably not a good idea to exercise hard as you'll delay recovery.
It's basically the same virus that causes chicken pox that your immune system is failing to suppress. Usually caused by stress or some other underlying factor that has made you run down. you can do a bit of exercise but be careful, don't over cook it. Shingles can develop into Bells Palsy and you really don't want that to happen. I had shingles a couple of years ago and did a couple of short rides, went for a couple of beers too but just keep it in check. don't do too much. Thankfully I was okay after ten days or so.

Sean Connery's 45rpm collection?
I was diagnosed with it 3 weeks ago loads of pain and felt washed out! Have to say I have ridden when I can and it's helped takes my mind off the pain.
Reading around it. I had a big tree interface a few weeks ago and the pain/rash is in the same area.
Think I'll trundle the rollers so I can stop and be home when I want. I'm at murrayfield on saturday so no polite company.
I managed to get it in my left testicle. Think yourself lucky.
It's basically a localised chickenpox outbreak as the dormant virus in your spine becomes a bit less dormant and picks a nerve ending to appear on, so you can get it anywhere. Usually triggered by contact with another stain or just a buggered immune system.
It's not just me then! You could've knocked me down when the doctor trotted that one out the other day. As mine is hanging around on my head and around my left eye, I'm staying off the bike for the moment.
On anti vitals to get rid of it but it is blinking annoying. Really sore head (not keen on putting on my helmet, that's for sure) and run down feeling. I think the rest is starting to scab.
What's a typical period to get back to normal from there?
I had it on my face / eyes.
Led to more unpleasant after effects .... sorry for that
I still ( two years on) get tingling all over my face if stressed/ tired etc ... but that is kind of what it does.
If you can even think about hitting the rollers count yourself as lucky
You can't catch Shingles - the virus is in you body from having Chicken Pox as a kid. It lies dormant in you verve endings ....
Can you catch chicken pox from people with shingles ... no idea
If you can get the motivation to do any riding then I don't think there's any reason not to, other than it might perhaps make you feel a bit worse tomorrow.
When I had shingles last year I couldn't do a damn thing for days!
You can catch chicken pox from someone with shingles but this is very unusual because 1) most people have had chicken pox so are immune and 2) the virus is in the blisters only, so needs close contact. Not spread by coughs and sneezes.
The only time I’ve ever come across a verified case of someone catching chicken pox from someone with shingles was a friend who had three kids under 5. The oldest one had shingles, the youngest one who had not yet had chicken pox contracted it from her big brother.
Shingles can indeed vary as stated above. Some just get a rash, some are really unwell. My daughter had it on her 15th birthday. She had 2 days of headaches and vomiting before developing the rash, which was not that bad. Probably had some mild viral meningitis with it. I wouldn’t do too much exercise for the week or so that it lasts.
