Have developed a shin splint, and don't want to aggravate it so I've cut out all running. Unfortunately on my feet quite a lot at work and can't stop working at the minute.

When I stretch my calves at the moment, I can feel the point which it hurts my shin; should I keep stretching them, in order to calm the inflammation down or am i just causing more damage?

I've been off running for some 6 weeks now. Also icing whenever I can or get home from a long day on my feet.

Stretching your calf muscles would put more pressure on it, so i'd probably not bother.

shin splints? running?

stop landing on your heels, don't wear shoes with heels.

I used to get shin splints and thought I just couldn't run.

Then a couple of years ago I took up running again and this time I didn't suffer from shin splints at all...despite running up to 12 miles on the road on occasion.

The only differences were;

1. I got fitted for running trainers and bought the one's they recommended.

2. I moved to a house where I had to do a quick pace 10-12 min walk to the train station twice a day (there and back)

I think the second point was the main contributing factor...

I also make sure I warm up properly before running.
