Don't tell the pc users, but my 2year old iMac has a problem.
It boots up. I log on. Safari fires up as per settings.

Then **** all. Mouse moves, icons on the doc act when hovered over, but Clicky no worky.
I can't even force quit safari or restart finder.

Any ideas??

Check across the top by the vents - is it a bit hot?

Sounds like it might be firing up, HDD getting a bit hot and then everything grinding to a halt...if it's getting hot, then stop, don't do anything, and get a specialist to recover your stuff.

Don't fire up Safari? Trash it and download a new version?

If you have the original disks there should be a diagnostics disk in there, but expect your fans to go like mad.

I had an issue a few years ago with some new memory causing the system to crash, but only after it got a little warm.

Do any of the keyboard shortcuts work?

Try a different keyboard or at least unplugging and plugging it back into a different USB port?

if you hold in shift as it starts up it'll start it up in a safe mode, might disable your startup items, i'm guessing that's why safari is launching, then that'll tell you if it's safari that's causing the problems.. dunno just a guess.

also if it's a disc problem.

if you hold in apple+S as you start up that'll get you into single user mode(command line thingy like dos) and you can then check if there are any problems with the disc.. type in fsck -yf wait till in finishes then restart it(type exit or reboot, canny mind.)... like i say just guessing.
