Yup tomorrow is the solstice, so she's not on her way back until Saturday really...

Not checked exact times, but basically.

Edit: checked it's 3.27am Friday

Whenever the exact solstice is, we seem to have reached it quickly this winter.

Jeez - those kind of Jo Burt’s cartoons really make me dusty!

Anyway, with my new exposure Six Pack I’m kinda sad that there will be decreasing time to use it in the coming weeks. Booo!

Rain and mud can do one, right enough though.

I did once have exactly this moment - top of the climb up from Charterhouse onto Black Down on Mendip. I can feel the warm sun on my face, lying in the grass cooling off in the gentle scented breeze just beyond the fell gate. Mmmmm... Pint of Wilkins in the Hunters at Priddy and an afternoon drinking Pimms in a friend's garden in Draycott. Mrs Rhp always refers to these as Mint Sauce moments. Mendip does them well 😀

Wait, what?
I only rode my wife's Kona Coco down to the park to drink cans in the sunshine.
So not a wasted day then.

I'd always imagined South Downs? Every day's a skool day.

Splitting the difference between the Mendips and the South Downs, I thought Jo was from Salisbury way?
Anyways, roll on beautiful Summer...

I'd rather have rain than the wind heading this way.  My hopes of a Christmas day surf aren't looking good.

The evenings started getting longer a few days ago, that's the one that counts for me!

But yea, it's a nice feeling knowing we're on the right side of the solstice.

Technically doesn't "meteorological" winter and summer start on the 22nd December, 22nd June?

Astronomical winter starts on the solstice; meteorological winter started on December 1st. Sauce

Her website is down.

^^ Last I heard they had to return to the UK from Europe as they were about to overrun their 3 months visa due to lockdowns...

She was a big supporter of Brexit.

Make of that what you will.

I'm sorry but at age 65 I'm in no hurry to celebrate the passing of time. Let me get some good riding, running, walking and swimming in before another summer is upon us.

Just arrived in Avebury to be here for sunrise tomorrow. Not sure there's going to be much of one but I fancied doing something to mark the solstice.

I don't think it's actually going to get light here today and the rain is biblical, I imagine we're due for some flooding. Roll on warm balmy days.

What I always wonder at this time of year is why does she take twice as long to reappear than she does to go away? Does she not like returning?

(yes I know about the thermal drag of our climate, hence why January and February are coldest and July and August are warmest. Still doesn't mean it sucks.)

More that the temperatures and weather lag behind the Solstices, so while it may well be the start of the run towards the summer it never feels like it until nearly Easter!

The "this is why..." phrase really has become part of MTB folklore.  Noticed this tiny sticker this weekend on a trail I've ridden hundreds of times before.

Solstice sunrise pilgrimage yesterday for work reasons. Sunrise not the best, but nacreous clouds excellent compensation

Just been for a sunset wassail at a local hawthorn tree of note on the river with my wife. Little song, couple of ribbons, and a glug of sherry.

We had nacreous clouds here the last two days, but none today. Been a fine day for a wander in the woods and a little spin down the lane.

This is why...I subscribed to MBUK this year so that Mint has a place to be. Got a really nice print from Jo's Etsy shop too.
