Hoping the Sheffield crew on here can help with this one. I'm crap at gift buying, but I need a present for a friend's 40th. She's also not easy to buy stuff for so am thinking along the lines of "experience" type things. She's in Sheffield and current climate/ work/ family commitments means it'd be good to have something local to her – but I'm clueless of anything down there (i.e. Sheffield or thereabouts) which is where I need some guidance. Obvious thoughts were along the lines of fancy restaurant taster menu for her and friend/partner but any ideas welcome (did I mention I'm crap at present buying?). Budget £100 to £200 (I guess ??). So imaginative, exciting suggestions - I'm all ears!
PS - not a biker/climber etc... but vaguely outdoors stuff OK, fancy meals good, days out yes, spa days not so much...
Joro is modern tasting menu food and very highly rated both by restaurant critics and mates who have been.
There's also a good spa hotel near Hope that gets very good reviews but not sure of costs.
Whitley Hall Hotel and Restaurant also a nice experience if a little old school but meant to be very good.
As above, Loosehill House have a 7 course taster menu. Last time we were their it was £75 per person but well worth it
Joro or losehill 👍
Failing that, walking down west street on a Saturday night is an 'experience'.
This is great stuff everyone, thanks... off to start googling these...
Joro is excellent. Thornbridge do a brewery tour in Bakewell. Losehill Hall also a good shout. The old vicarage in Ridgeway is meant to be excellent (Michelin star) but also meant to be a bit stuffy.
Rafters restaurant also excellent. I had my 40th in there and it was a riot. Vero Gusto also superb in the city centre, had a night out there recently starting with cocktails in Public which is also bloody brilliant.
Right, thanks everyone. I think I'll give JÖRO a try. Despite my aversion to the faux scandi bollocks and hipster shipping container nonsense, it looks good by all accounts and something they'll enjoy. Vouchers to a sensible value and hopefully they'll have a good time. I knew you'd save the day - thanks!
Jöro and Rafters sprang immediately to my mind. Fischers in Baslow is good, but Okd Vicarage is a bit stilted if there are more Bly two of you, and I think it lost its star recently.
Slightly lower key, Oi Soi is great fun, as is Juke and Loe, and so is Brocco on the Park. Brocco has bedrooms too, so could be a full night away (but maybe not in budget).
