I'm going to be in Sheffield City centre for the night by myself on 1 May and will need to eat. It would be nice to go somewhere decent rather than hotel food so does anyone have any suggestions of pubs to eat in? Thanks!
Yup, +1 for The Rutty.
City centre gastro (or even gastro-ish) pubs are thin on the ground.
If a bar-type vibe is acceptable, Kommune might be a good choice. Lots of food options and quite an interesting place to hang out.
Rutty's a bit smelly and sticky if that sort of thing puts you off.

That's what I was thinking. I wouldn't fancy eating a meal in there.
Bankers Draft (only kidding) - Brewdog Division Street, or the brand new Vocation also on Division Street.
I'm going to Sheffield in a few weeks and was looking at Domo's and Silversmiths, but they're restaurants, not pubs.
Kommune is good. Big streetfood hall in an ex department store. Similarly Cutlery Works is good too, but much smaller/ more intimate. Either would be a good shout for interesting food and beer.
Which hotel/where in the centre will you be?
If your focus is food then I wouldn't recommend rutty. I love rutty for boozing and the food is ok, but if I was going for a relaxing meal on my own, there are much nicer places to be.
Domo is excellent but a bit of a stroll from the centre. Silversmiths is central and worth a look. Not been recently but it used to be decent. Kommune a good shout but a bit noisy in there when busy.
To be fair now that I think about it, I’ve never eaten more than a bag of crisps in the Rutland.
They do have great beer though.
kommune and cutlery works are obvious easy options. I find them a bit soulless though. Not sure I’m the target demographic TBH.
The broadfield has a good rep if you like pies.
I'd say the Red Deer for city centre, Kelham Island tavern if a 15 min walk is acceptable. Head of steam also good for ales and food. There's also the Roebuck.
It's not anywhere as bleak as Sharkattack makes it out to be.
Agree kommune is totally souless but convenient for groups eating all sorts. Cutlery works much nicer but a trek from the centre.
I've had many epic pies at the broady as it's my favoured local. Ham hock if you're mega hungry.
Kommune is a bit like sitting in IKEA but some of the food is awesome. It's not a bad place to go on your own either as it's not like sitting in a normal pub or restaurant. I'd do that then go for a pint in the Head of Steam or something.
The city centre is pretty bleak to be honest. I'm not sure if it's worse during the day when all the specimens are on the loose or after hours when it's full Walking Dead.
You don’t need to eat. Get some strong booze into ye. I like Public. It’s an old gents toilet so you can go for a piss whilst you’re there! They do a cracking Old Fashioned.
If you’re prepared to go a bit further out then go to Tonco
It depends on how pushed you are for time. If your trying to fill an evening the walk out should be pleasant and you can visit the Park etc.
Come on to say Public too for small plates and great cocktails.
If you do end up at Kommune then go to the little bar behind the main bar, it's a million times better.
Love the Rutland Arms. Probably my favourite pub in Sheff. Not eaten there but would quite happily.
The Red Deer in town was good for food but not eaten there for a few years.
Kommune is ok, but like others say really noisy.
One pub that no one has mentioned and doesn't really do food is the Dorothy Pax down at the canal basin. Great pub for a drink though and have a lot of live music if that's your sort of thing.
Edit: Not a pub but if you like Mexican, well Tex-Mex, then Street Food Chef is awesome.

Might not be quite what you're after but The Fat Cat. Steak pie and pint for I think less than £10, very much hit the spot a few months ago.
The rutty butty is famous and rightly so. Those turning their nose up at food there clearly have never tried it
Thanks everyone, some great suggestions! I'm staying at the central Travelodge the night before a charity trustee meeting so really just want somewhere that isn't soulless, food isn't that important as I'm sure I can find chips somewhere. . Vocation sounds good as I love their beer.
In which case triple point brewery with twisted burger is another good option.

Forgot about that place. Not bad beer and decent food in the burgers, chips and onion rings, deep fried everything style.
And if you go to triple point, go to industry tap nearby
