Parking is a right pain to get out of.  If I was going there, and not in a massive rush, I'd park & ride on the tram from either near Hillsborough or from Nunnery square

Yeah parking at Sheffield arena is great going in, but getting out is a nightmare.

Park at Meadowhall train station and jump on the tram, it's only about 2 stops.

First answer has it. Don't drive anywhere near the place. If there's a thunderstorm while the gig is on the whole area will be flooded anyway.

Saw Peter Kay there quite a few years ago. Getting into the carpark was fine, leaving took at least 30 minutes. So I'd be parking there as a last resort.

If you have a car with a steal-worthy exhaust system I wouldn't. That area is rife with folk pinching the cats off folks exhausts in broad daylight, happened a few times at the Ice Arena.

There's nowhere in Sheffield that this doesn't happen.

About midnight is the answer to last tram.
Meadowhall is at the end of the yellow line.

looks like the main option then is park at meadowhell train station and tram it in then.  any idea of costs for both the parking and the trams?  and how often do they run? (that timetable link doesnt work for me)

Edit: not much money and quite often. Meadowhell parking always used to be free (not been for a couple of years though as I've been lucky!)

I usually book a night at the nearby Premier Inn for not much and then can use their car park, have a few beers and a full English the following morning- make the whole thing a bit more fun.

There's the Premier Inn and the Ibis across the road, both will probably already be booked out. The Travelodge at Meadowhell is very nice but a bit of a walk through Forgemasters, there's another Premier Inn down the road as well.

Big Baps on Attercliffe Road does a good breakfast roll.

It was a nightmare getting in and out of the car park last year when we went to see Young Voices.

I would get the tram in if I went again.

Following on from squirrelking's recommendation, city sauna on Attercliffe Road also offers big baps (if the tv documentary is anything to go by).

My experience from going to see Oasis there years ago. I only got home 20 minutes ago.

Meadowhall TS/park and ride parking is free. Tram is a couple of quid. We got return to Hillsborough park the other week for Arctic Monkeys, family ticket was less than a tenner I think.

Ah, that looks like you can actually park in the shopping centre car park, which is potentially even better.

We parked in the train station car park which is the park and ride, for trains and trams.

right, so ive looked at the meadowhall map and seen that the train station is the opposite side to the green and blue carparks and hence the 'tinsley tram stop'.  so does the tram from the train station pick up at tinsley on its way?

it would appear ive got 3 options then.

1.  blue or green car parks for free, catch tram from tinsley tram stop.
2. train station carpark appears to be free too ( https://www.yourparkingspace.co.uk/sheffield/stations/meadowhall-train-station-parking) and ive got options of park and ride or tram?
3. a kind offer to park for free near the botanical gardens and get the bus (2 buses?) from ecclesall rd, however this is further out and im not sure on the buses, so either 1 or 2 would appear to make more sense?  and if the trams are chocker, then a 25 minute walk isnt the end of the world.  possibly 😀

i should just state im looking for the easiest option rather than the cheapest.  ideally we want to be in the car and away asap when theres thousands piling out of the same place.

im told trams back to meadowhall should be the quickest option, but having never used them, i dont know how packed theyll be, how often they run, whether we can actually get on one or not, or whether you need to book tickets in advance.

could anyone advise on that please?

Trams in both directions will be busy but definitely less busy towards Meadowhall. There’s a park and ride at both IKEA and Centertainment too which are free and nearer than parking at Meadowhall. Also note that Meadowhall shopping centre has ANPR now so if you do end up parking there, use the station park and ride.

Sorry, should have added that they’re every 12 minutes normally but tend to put extra ones on for events. £2 single and £3.80 return and can buy on board, but chances are you might not have to pay on the return unless they have a conductor on the approach to the platform selling tickets before you board.

gut feeling is that now youve told me about ikea and centertainment park and rides, that id just leave the car in one of those just cos theyre nearer.  looking at the location, it hardly seems worth getting on a bus from those as theyre so near?

Trams are good. You buy a ticket on board, there's a permanent conductor there. Confused the hell out of me the first time I used them cos I was used to trams in Manchester and Nottingham, both of which have fines if you don't buy before boarding!

Sheffield is simple - buy on board only, there's no app, no ticket machines...

If you're coming in from the north, use Middlewood P&R - avoids all issues of driving in the city or around the arena. Meadowhall is closer but it'll be a lot busier.

Pulp are amazing and being down the road from Sheffield it kills me to miss this one but I'm in Colorado so can't really complain. (And I was offered tickets by a mate too. Arrrgh)

City Hall is so much better for everything despite being in the centre. I always use QPARK above smoke. And eat there.  Home in 30.

This is very true but *everyone* will be parking at Meadowhall so, while it's closer, it'll just end up as carmageddon once everyone tries to drive out.

Longer journey to Middlewood but a hassle free escape once there.

tis one idea, and we'll consider it, but a part of me would hate to miss part of an experience just to save a bit of crowd congestion.  until we're in that crowd congestion of course, and cursing why we didnt listen to you 😀

still my gut feeling is that if we park at centertainment/ikea/meadowhall in that order of choice, we can always walk if we havent got a clue where to catch bus/tram or if its too packed.  id just like to ask again, can you park for free and then just walk, or would you still need to get a park and ride ticket maybe?

You'll be able to park at Meadowhall and walk, it says on your link that walking is about 20-25 minutes. So they must be expecting people to walk as well as get the tram. Its just a car park, the tram fare is just the tram fare, nothing over laps. Even at the train station park and ride, you don;t have to prove anything about parking or using the train.

Personally, now I know it's there, I'd probably try Valley centertainment park and ride and just walk there, if thats full head back to Meadowhall and jump on the tram at Tinsley.

@tuboflard ive just checked the official park and ride site, and they seem to suggest that those 2 P&R carparks are only open until 18.00? (items 3 and 8)

and just to confuse the issue even more, putting the times into parkopedia gives the result of meadowhall and ikea carparks being closed and only centertainment being available.

I’m pretty sure you can park in both even when officially closed. There’s no barriers that I can remember. And almost certain Meadowhall train station car park is open 24 hours.

thanks mate, just rang them but they just confused matters more by saying cant park at ikea, can only park at meadowhall train station (not the blue and green zones that the website says is ok) and gave me the number for centertainment.  just got passed from pillar to post there and may even be an external parking enforcer, so..... i think i'll try that first and go in and ask.  then if not mebbes up to MH but dont know whether to go to train station or blue/green now.

When I did a few weeks ago for Arctic Monkeys, the train staion parking and tram was a piece of piss. Would recommend, getting in and out is easy as well.

You can't park at Centertainment for the Arena. It's basically across the road and the parking enforcement is pretty tight, particularly for big events.

just back from an amazing gig, probably the best stage show ive seen. and i parked at centertainment 😀

twas my preferred option due to the location, so asked in the cinema who said that you cant park there unless you use one of the eateries.  went to a pizza place to eat and the lass there said no, youre not sposed to, but yes keep the receipt just in case, but nobody ever polices it and shes worked there ages and never had any trouble parking there each night, never registered the car etc.

loads of people seemed to be doing the same thing, we werent clamped, no ticket on the car, so unless we hear anything later then happy days.  in fact id go so far as to say you dont even need to eat there really if nobody polices it 🤷‍♂️

and even tho our entrance was the opposite side of the carpark so we feared the worst getting out, we were straight out and onto the motorway.

so, hassle free in the end, and like i said, a top top gig, really enjoyed it and more importantly mrs expunk said it was one of the best shes seen too.

@sadexpunk - good to hear. They may have become more chilled of late. Certainly pre-covid you'd likely have got a ticket however they may just want people in the area now.

Glad it was a good gig too. Like Pulp but never seen them live.
