Hi All

Just built a shed- 2m by 3.5m but looking for roof covering. Used traditional felt type stuff in the past, but wondering if there are any reasonable alternatives out there? Its a pent roof- ie single flat roof with no angle in it. Shed will be lined and used as a working space. All ideas and experience welcome!!

Cheers

Paul

We're looking at corrugated bitumen for our impending shed re-roof job, supposedly easy to work and long lasting.

Seconded EDPM - way easier than felt to install & will last longer.

Yep... rubber.

I used coroline (the corrugated bitumen) on a chicken house roof and it works well also - looks somewhat more agricultural though. Plus you have to screw into your roof to fit it which gives potential for leaks.

I got fed up replacing the felt on our 13' x 7' shed. I just put corrugated steel sheet over the top - fanastic, untouched for 7 years so far.

I'd do EPDM too. Process well explained here:

Yeah you can get steel corrugated sheets in many reclamation yards if you're lucky.

I used it on my big shed, you never touch it and it looks dope.

I've just bought some Coroline to replace the polycarb corrugated stuff on our shed roof that acquired about 30 holes in a hailstorm a couple of years ago. At the time, I patched it up with gorilla tape as a 'short term' solution and that is all peeling off, so something needs to be done!

I am yet to fit it yet, but it's all been delivered - total cost for extra timber required (the current roof is flaky at best, so might not be required in your case), the Coroline sheets & ridge pieces & some screw-in roof fixings from Screwfix came to under £200.

The Coroline is light & seems to be easy to work with. Just need to find a free weekend to get on with it now!

Obviously, for the OP, corrugated is no good on a flat roof. I'd be considering EPDM, over felt. Screwfix do complete kits, which look like good value for money.

Yep... the only thing I found was that the bitumen made a sticky mess of whatever blades were used to cut it!
