Having followed the many shed threads with great interest, I've embarked on my own build in my week off work.

Having a relatively small garden I've got space for an 8x8 shed without going too daft.....could go a bit bigger but will then lose the convenience of being a multiple of standard timber sizes.

I built the base frame today - have to say an impact driver makes the job a breeze compared to the last time I did it with a mix of corded drill, cordless driver and most of the skin off my hands finishing off with a manual driver on some screws.

The shed sits in a corner so I can see my way ahead is fairly straightforward for the sides against the back/side fence - OSB (not quite decided on thickness, breathable membrane then Selco seem to have some cheap lengths of 2.4m feather edge board at a quid-odd each.  These sides will have to be constructed completely before fixing into place as there will be no access to the back/side.

So now we're onto my conundrum....I can't do too much to the remaining two sides without knowing what doors/windows I'm going to put in.  Windows seem straightforward as there's an abundance nearby on Ebay for very decent prices.

Doors are another matter - I want French type doors as the front of the shed is where the sun hits in the evening so want to be able to fully open the doors to open up the cabin onto decking.  I've seen a few on eBay but they all seem to come in ~2 metre wide frames which I can't get in my van.

Any ideas - what have people done?  Buy French double glazed UPVC and chop the frame?  Salvage yard?  Specialist cheap shed/log cabin door supplier?  Something else?

Not quite the same, bit I picked up a huge window and a garage door. It just went on the roof. Over hung a little bit but not that much. I just drove extra carefully and found stuff locally so wasn't driving too far. Also, if you happen to be anywhere near Bath I know a great supplier for 18mm OSB and 2x4 timber.

Ta, I'm in Nottingham 🙂

I think I can answer my own question - buy some off eBay and get a man with an emptier van to pick them up....

The answer is clear, n+1 in vans as well as bikes.

Or just a roof rack on your van or car to move the frame, no weight in them once the doors are off.

You just have to luck out on eBay. I got some 1.8m wooden patio doors, shaved then down to fit how I wanted. Only 10 minutes down the road. Admittedly I had to wait for 6 months.

I got these for the price of a meal of a mate who got several sets from a company that does penetration testing. They were damaged but the double glazed units where fine so cleaned up well. Build the rest around them.

So....I lucked out on eBay.  I took the passenger seat out of my van and assumed that even if I had to drive with poptop up, I would somehow fit 2m high, 1.4 metre wide doors in.  After 30 seconds I realised there was NO CHANCE!

Fortunately the bloke I was buying them off was a decorator and had his own van with a roof-rack, so he ended up delivering them across town for me - I chucked another £20 his way which he hadn't asked for.
