One of the favourite things about having my birthday today is the knowledge that it means we are now heading out of the darkness and into the distant light of the spring and summer. 🙂

Yes, the other thread (without Mint Sauce) is about how the "turns" in dawn and dusk times don't line up with the solstice. Strange but true . . .

On her way back?
Can someone tell her to put the brakes on then.
I'm not quite done with snow, hard frosts, open fires, clear starry skies and stunning sunrises/sunsets.
Thanks.

Should be the proper day for binge eating and drinking.

Many festive returns to you all!

We've not quite made it through yet, but the end is coming.
I agree with fasthaggis though, I'd like some more snow first.
The temperature the last couple of days has made it feel like spring's here already though!
Happy midwinter!

Yes! bring it on, lost most of the good weather this year thanks to obliterating my ankle, can't wait for spring, especially now my eldest can ride a decent distance.

Hoping to take him bikepacking next year.

I know Jan and Feb are generally the grimmest of the winter, but I don't care. For me the Winter Equinox is a synonym for 'pre-Spring' 🙂

For some reason that image at the top of the thread has brightened up my day and would look nice in my wee girls room.

Winter "bivvy" currently in progress. I'm at 670 and something metres on the summit of a Scottish mountain and it's a lovely evening. Can't be below -1 and there's barely a breeze.

It is a highlight of the year but this year is coincided with the cold bright crisp weather turning to mild damp and dull and it looks set to stay that way for a while.

might be staying up later at night, but until 31st shes being lazy and continuing to sleep in for longer in the mornings.

winter's the best season, especially when it's crisp, cold and snowy.

It’s great ain’t it! I’ve never been much of a fan of Xmas, but to think we’ve broken the back of the ‘dark days’ and it gets a tiny bit better every day now fills me with joy.

It’s a whole extra 2 seconds of light tonight!

...winter's the best season, especially when it's crisp, cold and snowy.

I was thinking just that this morning.

Running through the woods, a rising sun reflecting red and orange off the frost, the whole world asparkle, blue in the sky. My great big hairy wolfhound at heel.

Fabulous.

Then I had to cross a large pool of muddy ice melt that filled my shoes. The hound was splashing beside me wetting my thin running gear, and she followed up with a mighty shake to dry herself and distribute more wetness over me.

That's when I agreed with Klunk. 🙂
