I've got a few quid free at the moment, and am thinking that a bit of involvement here may help my lad with his life choices. What apps are good for basic share trading. My thinking is to give both of my kids and myself a  lump of dough to play with.

There’s one advertised on some podcasts I listen to, that goes on to say that 74% if accounts lose money…

That'll be one of those binary trading platforms, which aren't the same as share trading.

Hargreaves Lansdown is probably the best website for trading (that I've used). I don't use their mobile app though so can't comment on it.

Or just go with a bank you trust. Lloyds and Halifax do share dealing, I think most other high street banks will too.

I use HL and trading 212. Trading 212 is very user friendly on a phone and good for kids/ teens I would say.

HL has more info and more stocks and shares.

Been using Freetrade with reasonable success for a few months.
Easy to set up and make trades.
Happy to send you a link that gets you (both of us) a free share if you sign up.

Opened a load over the last few months playing.

If you want into a SIPP or ISA for large trades over £1k with largest range of global stocks / etf’s Hargreaves is great. For investing small amounts the trade fees will kill you.

If you want to mess around with free trades on big name stocks like Tesla then Freetrade or Revolut are fine but lack range.

If you want something in the middle with a wide range of global stocks and etf’s, in addition to trading fractionally (Invest £5 into amazon rather than $3k for a single share) and no trading fee then Trading 212 is your friend.

Services that don’t charge a fee will generally make money on their spread but for small trades you are unlikely to notice.

Stay away from CFD, Spread Bet, Binary or any trading on margin.

IMO fantasy / demo accounts are useless. You are much better trading insignificant amounts like £2-5. Psychology is totally different with real money that you can lose Vs a 50k fantasy pot.

Final advice: Don’t try to guess the bottom on Rolls Royce 😂

For 212 if you use this link you will get a free random share (So will I): www.trading212.com/invite/GISeebI3

Mods - feel free to replace link with your own. Plenty of people seem to chat about shares here - you should get on the affiliate programs! Sure there is more money to be made than the totally random stuff I’m targeted with 😂

Hl app is great, though not as informative as their website.

That's a good point, I'm managing 30 years worth of pension in mine, so only ever trade in units of several £k at a time.
