Well done to (one of) the penguins...

I really dislike the anthropomorphism and trowelled on indoctrination in everything that man is involved in.

Seemed to cover well farrowed ground ,Antartica has very limited wildlife. When you sea a tiger seal eat a penguin once thats enough. Looking forward to the other programs, hopefully there'll be something original in more diverse landscapes.

Stunning in 4k/hdr on iPlayer, like looking out of a window.

I can do without the lecture

You have the option not to watch.

The penguins could do without the global warming.

I suspect that their inconvenience is greater than yours.

I also suspect that his lecture will alter the behaviour of way more people than some protestor gluing themselves to a tube train.

Nah. His 'lecture' - or rather, gentle pointing out of facts that make some people feel guilty, will result in making them grumble a bit on forums, but do bugger all.

But he should keep pointing it out tho...

It can be a bit preachy but he does have a point!

You've always got the mute button.

Doh was wondering why it wasn't in UHD, couldn't see that option via Sky so slummed it in HD

Utterly heartbreaking, so much so that I turned it off

Those complaining about the ‘lecture’ are usually the ones who need to hear it and need to change their lifestyles

IIRC, bbc nature stuff is all filmed & transmitted in 4K, so if your kit can handle it, it should show in 4K. The ‘watch in UHD’ button is a bit of a gimmick, and only seems to be on sky’s ‘own brand’ channels.

+1 awesome stuff. I have a new telly and it's just amazing to watch.

re. the environmental message... society changes slowly. It needs to have stuff pointed out over and over before it realises what's going on. See cigarettes, poor diet, brexit, mental health, et al.

Gotta love how there's always someone who considers themselves too clever for BBC entertainment programmes. Rest of us can only dream of having such enormous brain power.

The bit that got me was the camera man who was visibly emotional about being so lucky to be there but with a tinge of sadness that it is under such threat. Some of the uhd bits were like the best cgi imaginable.
Looking forward to the rest of the series and to be thoroughly preached at by a man who's old enough and travelled enough to see it happening before his very eyes!

Blue-faced, golden-coated, snub-nosed, snow monkeys.
Whoever discovered them was clearly lacking any imagination in the naming department.

+1 for the filming though, it's just spectacular.

Bloody hell, those poor Walrus.  That spider tailed snake was awesome.

I didn't realise this was a new series, thought it was a repeat as the wife was watching it in standard definition.

"Well I just can't see the difference"

Every time.

Things I learnt tonight:

Walruses really shouldn’t go rock climbing, should they?

And we’ve all been pronouncing orangutan wrong

Oh... and Mrs Binners wants a baby snow monkey

What. An. Opening!

Wow! Just wow.

Maybe a bit grim for 1815 on a Sunday evening but that is nature: red in tooth and claw. The snake did make me jump.

My mother is the same. I gave her my old TV when I upgraded (and my old one was a vast improvement on hers) but every time I'm there, telling her to put it on HD and she's like "oh it just looks the same"

Was the Walrus one from the Amazon sponsored programme - fell off the top ?

Incredible footage , even on my really good Samsung HD TV. You can't watch this in SD at all. HD or UHD.

I think I’m the only person on the planet who can’t stand Attenborough.

This. I can't watch his stuff now. I know stuff needs to change but the people who should watch it won't and that just depresses the crap out of me even more because I can't do anything (more) about it.

My mother finds his voice irritating.

Another cracking episode they tamed the walrus scene down a bit given it seemed to be the same footage from Planet Earth.

Brilliant episode last night. Was it a bit of genius programming to show it the same night as the blue faced monkey shows up in His Dark Materials? All just in SD here… our TV in 14 years old… stop buying so much crap people… the planet is begging you. And remember that palm oil free nutty butter is better butter.

I am with kayla here.
I am fully aware that the world is a harsh and brutal place - in the animal kingdom as well as the human effect. One Walrus falling of a cliff is enough ... it makes the point , as did the pile of corpses at the bottom.
I understand that DA is extremely passionate about what is happening to the natural world... and he has been a great voice to hear over the last few years trying to change peoples perception. There is no doubt we are changing the planet to be much worse.

But at 18.20 on a Sunday I do not want to watch endless carnage in the animal kingdom. The first one of the series was all about penguin genocide...
It is beautifully shot - but unwatchable.

A couple of short segments in a one hour programme is hardly "endless". And you're free to watch it at any time you like.

we’ve all been pronouncing orangutan wrong

Not according to all the online dictionaries we haven't - just one of Attenboroughs little mannerisms

I thought o-rang-oooo-tan was the correct way as this was closest to the original Malay "orang hutan" meaning "man of the jungle"

Anyway not see this weeks yet, but the first one was stunning

I haven't used one since ours was nicked in a burglary about 35 years ago, so am unable to help.
