A friend put a nice photo up of a lake view with mountains reflected, (Exhibit A below). I looked at it, and something didn't seem right. It looks like it's been flipped vertically. Exhibit B shows the bit which don't look right to me. Exhibit C shows the flipped version which looks correct. Friend insists no flipping has occurred. Is he just screwing with me, or am I going mad?

C is the right one.
You are right.
Aside from the artefacts you've highlighted.... I'd expect the reflected sky to be darker than the real one. I'm not really sure how the foreground tree branches would manage to be in the reflection only
If you do a reverse image search of the pic (paste the URL into google here and click the camera button it brings up a host of simlar views and the reflection will pretty much always be darker
Rob agrees with mowgli
Your mate is winding you right up
Aliens.
Hooray!
It's not tree branches mac, it's grass sticking up out of the water.
Am I right in thinking that if you take a photo with an iPad upside down, it looks the right way up for whoever took the photo but will be upside for others if you share it.
I'm pretty sure this pic was taken with a proper camera, but it would explain a bit. It came off facebook though, so probably looks the same to everyone?
Bonus points for anyone who can name the bit of water.
Definately D.
What was the question?
It's not tree branches mac, it's grass sticking up out of the water.
The whole top right hand quarter of C is grass?
Bonus points for anyone who can name the bit of water.
I'm going to call it Bluey. Or Wetty. No, Bluey.
Fair point! I was looking at the bits of grass sticking up out of the water 🙂
Anyway theres also only conclusive way to settle an argument

Disappointing that there's been no photoshopping of boats, water skiers or whales into the sky
Looks like A is fine, they probably used a graduated ND filter
All I want for Christmas is .............Jamie.
i think the bit of water is named steve.
do i win anything?

Yeah, that and got the trees closer to the camera to levitate.

Missed that at first glance, C it is! 🙂
The promontory with trees/foliage on the right is the giveaway even if you lightened the reflection to make the sky and water even and removed any surface ripples,
you would have to very visually unaware not to spot that.
I can see 2 reflection lines, one at water level and one a bit higher running through the trees and grass at the RH side (same as you highlighted in b). If you look at the big rocky thing at the RH side it is only in the reflection too. Something isn't right, it has at least been flipped.
OP is right.
Aren't reflections darker?
