Hi - has anyone had this? After two years of being told I have arthritis, gout, sprained tendons in big toe - I finally saw someone this morning who has said I have sesamoiditis - a fracture of one of the bones under the ball of the big toe. Initially I'll have orthotics and steroid injections. Cycling is still OK but have to cut back on walking

How do they know its a fracture? Probably just irritation. Try the orthotics first before yoy have the steriods, a simple 3 degree medial wedge fixed mine, no pain after 2 weeks.

I had an X-Ray and the fracture is quite clear to see.

Good to know that yours cleared up so quickly though

Fair enough! Can see why you would need the steriods as well. Mine only cleared up quickly as i was handilly able to diagnose and treat it myself.. bit of a busmans holiday...

i was nearly crippled by this.

(it got to the point where the doctors were reccomending a 'sesamoidectomy')

i found it partly/mostly down to the funky 3d sculpted footbeds that most of my shoes [s]have[/s] had inside them.

(shoes with a flat footbed = no problem, shoes with a sculpted 'orthotic' footbed = agony)

once i replaced the 3d sculpted footbeds with cheapo flat ones, i had no more problems.

any footwear which 'supports' the arch of my foot causes me trouble.

i've found that simply cutting out the arch support with a pair of scissors to be almost as effective.
