Help me make a decision on where to take the sprog boarding/ skiing the week after next.

Both options look to be similar price (300 ish).
Both seemed to have pretty rubbish snow till yesterday.... arinsal has something stoopid like 80cm forecast over the next week. Briancon, not so much.

Will need snowboard lessons for the sprog for a few days. Apart from that all we're interested in is the off piste. Might hire a board myself and see if I can remember how it is done.

Arinsal looks tiny and says it's a beginners resort, but then I'm not too worried about acreage. I'm assuming the small area also comes with less people rushing for first tracks so it probably evens out ( yes, looking at you st Anton)

I once skied in Serre Checalier. Lovely smallish friendly resort.
One of my favourites.
It’s been a while though.....

We boarded serre Che last year, loved it. Nice area, quiet for Feb half term.
Didn't really consider beginners much.. but the 2 greens we did were quite narrow fireroad that can be tricky.
Black's and reds were great with good side piste action.
Cheap accommodation too!

Ok, you've had almost half an hour. What's your verdict?

They're both nice resorts, the transfer to arinsal is miserable though.

Sorry, thegeneralist, was a bit of a joke, as my love for Serre Che is well documented!

Great tree skiing, excellent food, simple transfers, oh and the sugar cubes after lunch at Le Bercail!

Go.

@Haze, not that much to be honest! Which is much of its charm in my view. Some of the lifts have been upgraded but some of the old ones are still going.

Was in Serre last week (just for a day from another resort) - snow was actually pretty good considering how bad it was in our base resort. The fact you can stay up high all day if you want helps. Some lovely long runs and a huge area to play in.

Right. Booked Briancon for 9 Feb.
Anyone else about that time?

More importantly, any suggestions for good Snowboard instruction for the kid?
Good hire shops in Chantmerle?
And most importantly where to get fresh tracks after the huge dump of snow that's honestly going to arrive just before we get there.

oh please

Riquet or Alphand.

Also....

The food at Le Plein Sud is excellent. Good chat in the bar, too. Say hello to Darren and Davina if you see them.
There's a place on the far side of the road from the pistes that does the best saucisson for miles.
La Terrasse for quiet chilled sundowners, The Station for drinking and carousing.
The aforementioned Bercail for lunch. Be sure to have the sugar cubes...

fresh tracks

The woods. Get in the woods! A day or two with http://ecole-ski-connections.com/en/ will help you find the stash

Top place. You'll have a blast.

Evening ents. Briancon Public pool is nice. Cheaper than the spa in Le Monetier also not sure on kids in the Spa.
Ice hockey in Briancon if there is a game on.
Cheap Lunch in Le Grot du Yeti (Say hi to Borough & Jules) under the Aravet base station.
If it's dumping and things start closing, circuits off the Cretes poma, skiers right as you go up. Its all safe and easy access..

Oh my giddy aunt. I can't believe how expensive it is. Shit on a stick, what have I done. 500 euros for the kids lessons, board and pass. This is going to cost almost as much as St Anton normally does for the whole family...

Anyway, 'tis done. Best make the most of it. I'll have another look at those links on a pc. Couldn't seem to find any off piste clinics my week, but maybe just my dodgy phone.

Anyone want to buy a bike, or some 100cm skis and diddy little boots.
Holy cow, it's expensive.

Awesome. Just the sort of info I'm after. Many thanks.

I'll check out those board shops too flashy.
