I normally use paypal for this sort of thing but this time the recipient doesn't have it, they want a balance transfer. I'm sending 35euro to Holland and my main bank (HSBC) want £9, which seems a little steep. Are there any other sensible options? I have a couple of other accounts but can't find the fees listed (Barclays & Natwest)

I use Caxton FX - you'll need to set up an account but it don't take long - no fees and good exchange rates.

Thanks teef, looks good but it seems the minimum is £100 to start off. I have tried the chap thomthumb has suggested, he has been very helpful and has some other offers I might be interested in, too.

Moneygram? not sure what they charge but most post offices and a few tesco stores have this option at the customer service desk.
