Any ideas how I can send a fax to my bank without a fax machine? I thought I could send it through my work but no such joy so I'm at Loose end. I have tried an app but it won't recognise the number because it's a UK number and is being faxed from the app host in USA.
Buy a delorean , build a flux capacitor and time.machinw then travel back to 1989. Send fax
Then create 3 different coloured explosives and put them. In the fuel tank of an intercity 125 and travel back to 2019.
Probably easier than sending a fax in 2019.
We all list a fax number on our email signatures so we thought it would be funny to ask where the fax machine was..... No one knew

scan it and email it to them
We still have a fax at work, and it gets used reasonably regularly.
If your computer/laptop has a modem you should be able to fax from it. Windows has a scan & fax program.
What bank requires a fax?!?!
We use eFax at work, used it for years.
Can't send an email for "security reasons"
It's Santander ppi claims and I think they make it as difficult as possible so they don't have to pay you.
I looked at efax but people are saying it's really hard to cancel.
I tried an app but couldn't seem to work out the international dialling number for a fax machine
Print the message you wish to send.
Hang the piece of paper around a child's face.
Drive your car towards child in reckless manner, avoiding a collision at the last minute by performing a handbrake turn .
Post dashcam footage on YouTube
Email YouTube link to bank..
That's how I do it.

One stuck in 1989?
I had similar problems with a solicitor, wouldn't except anything via email, only fax because of "security reasons". But they were happy to send documents via email though.
:-/

Shamelessly unreconstructed ain't I.
scan it and email it to them
Last time I tries suggesting this for a legal document I was told it wouldn't be legally binding! No idea if the same applies now but I had to get the document sent by post in the end (they *would* have accepted a fax which is bonkers)!
How close is your nearest branch? If you bank with them then I guess prety close/ Go in and ask them to fax it to the head office or whatever.
Tell Santander that you will raise their obstructive attitude with the Banking Ombudsman as a formal complaint.
Insisting on a fax is obstructive and, as you suggest, appears to be an attempt to dissuade you from pursuing a claim.
You should be able to find the CEO's name and email online; email them and mention the ombudsman. I predict the obstructive attitude will change.
For docs like that I'd probably ask for the postal address and send them recorded/signed for. Will probably be quicker and easier than sorting out a fax.
If not pop into your local GP they have loads
Santander CEO contact details....

How the f*** can a fax be more secure than an e-mail with a scanned attachment - it's just dots rendered on a page? Besides, probably the first thing they'll do is scan it for their records - sounds like they're just being obstructive.
Even the NHS is moving away from fax machines

I work for a bank and our department wont accept faxes for security reasons.
Great thread, good work on the creative responses.
Boring answer; don't faxes now work through your office printer (assuming you work in a decent sized office)?

This. In fact, just mentioning that you would like to make a formal complaint to them about it might be enough, as they will have to handle and address that complaint independently from the teams involved in processing the request. Speak to them and ask who you should address a formal complaint to, make that complaint, specifying that you feel it is obstruction to avoid paying out, and it is not reasonable to expect an individual to have any easy way to send a fax in 2019.
If they fail to offer a reasonable alternative, then speak to the Ombudsman and explain that you have already given them the opportunity to rectify and they have failed to do so.
Speak to them and ask who you should address a formal complaint to,
Fax to the complaints department?
They may offer to fax over the complaints form.
Besides, probably the first thing they’ll do is scan it for their records
I doubt it every gets printed out. Our email system used to have a modem and would pretend to be the fax and just convert it to image directly and email it internally. And that was 20 years ago. Sounds like they are being obstructive
Fax to the complaints department?
Quality work there. Didn't even need to look to see who posted that 🙂
Buy a fax, then absolutely NAIL them with a 1000 page document of a suitable image?

Local library?
Can't you just post it?
If it helps, I have a fax here at home, you could email me the doc and I can fax it?
Don’t know how private the info is though.
it is not reasonable to expect an individual to have any easy way to send a fax in 2019
but it isn't unreasonable to expect them to post it which would no doubt suffice. It took years for banks to accept faxes and even then you had to indemnify them.
Minley1 you have a PM!
I've been to the local branch and they have faxed it over for me.
I've rang the ppi people to make sure it's got there. And guess what? It's not blinking there! Getting fed up with the whole thing now
Message sent Big yim
Got a fax Machine in the office, never used now.
As for SANTANDER, theyll make you jump through hoops, and employ delaying tactics to stop you getting any cash back, found this out when i had a bereavement and probate problems, eventually a formal complauint and some compensation.
I work for a different bank which had an "axe the fax" project. Bonkers that anyone usrs them still.
On the other hand, IATA was still using TELEX in the early 2000s still!
A conversation with my LA a couple of years ago...
me, "Can you send me a copy?"
LA,"Yes, I'll print one off and fax it"
me, "So you have it on computer?"
LA, "Yes"
me, "So can you just attach it to an email?"
LA, "I suppose so"
A lot of bankers are just slow and awkward. Wife screwed up her login on Tuesday (Santander), phoned them up and support is closed s she is now waiting for 2 letters to arrive with codes to get back into her account. The stated time for letters to be sent is 7 days with no other options. 7 days!
I’ve rang the ppi people
Why are you using a PPI company? Bin them off right now, they'll skim at least a third off whatever you get back. Deal direct with the bank, it's free and piss easy.

The ppi people at the bank I presume. To see if they received the fax.
You'll probably need to leave it a couple of days before the PPI dept see whatever you sent them as it'll likely go through a mailroom first and then need to be scanned / assigned to the correct customer policy / case first.
Beyond Santander just being obstructionist (which may in fact be the main reason), I believe that faxed signatures are considered legally binding, whereas emails are not in all instances considered legally binding. Something to do with faxes being harder to hack (not sure I believe that one) and the fact there is a confirmation that the document was received (ok, maybe).
There are many, many ways to securely sign (and / or encrypt) emails digitally far in excess of an easily forged and probably unverified scribble on a bit of paper. The notion that a fax is more secure than, well, anything is utterly barking. Twenty years ago, maybe.
