I was invited to join a cult this week.
Still mulling it over.
Unfortunately it's in Barnet.

Thinking of moving back to Ireland, work mainly from home anyway, and can keep an eye on elderly parents.

If you can stand the locals - Sicily.
A bit of web based research led me to believe its one of the cheapest areas to live that isnt some third world ghetto hell
The property is un-maintained and basic building skills would be a great advantage
Warm/Hot for most of the year , mad driving , You need to learn Scicilian, not italiano . ahhhh and the Mafia might take an interest if you wanna run a business

I have Brexodused to Denmark, I highly recommend it, though I am missing the hills and proper mtb quite a lot. This is a country that has its sh!t together, UK feels like a dirty, dilapidated, faded run down backwards place after living here. But I do miss the hills...

It seems STW is increasingly becoming a hub for those suffering from various forms of mental health issues such as depression.
This is a bike forum - all yous feeling your life is empty or over because of Brexit or bad news on the TV need to get out on your bike and release those endorphins.

Often.... But I've nothing to sell.

Think we'll be sub letting our rented flat and jumping in the van and cruising about Europe on the look for something new.

Re. Sicily.... Was there in December 2016 for four weeks.

Fantastic, mostly untapped (regarding mtb) landscape. Found a few hand built trails up on Etna, but we were riding in the snow. However, the whole island is quite mountainous and would be an ideal winter mtb spot. The food is definitely better than the Canaries!

This country is great - we’re one hour from Peaks, one hour from Dales, 10 mins from Pennine Moors, 2 hours from Lakes or North Wales. No Brexiteer **** is going to make me leave...

Dunno I saw an advertisement recently for some little village in Italy , seems the town mayor is paying people ...I figured could set myself some artisan business there..

Volvo in Sweden...seem to be hiring at the moment

Australia is still a live option for me. I'd consider it when we see where the country is going. A place run by the brexit lunatics I'd not appealing, the next issue on the horizon is the shutdown of a massive amount of power generation.

I'm jacking in work later this year, passing on the reigns to the younger chap I've been training up before he murders me and takes over anyway. Should have enough money to see me through till the end now and have zero commitments. Keeping my small flat which I own outright, but will sell off everything else (which isn't much really) and next spring I'll be heading to do some long distance hiking trails in USA and see what happens from there. Got a young relative who will stay in my flat when I'm gone, helps her out with going to university and if I ever need to come back to it I can when she has finished her course. When/if I come back I'll be buying a campervan and heading off for a few years touring UK and Europe. Can't wait, detailled planning will be starting soon, that'll keep me distracted from any shit hitting the fan events rest of this year.

A liking for heavily fermented herring might also help 🙂

Personally I'd go with New Zealand for several reasons, mostly centred around weather, outdoor activities, proximity to the coast, penguins, dolphins and coffee.

Yep New Zealand would be number 1 for me.
Canada too cold.
Australia too hot.
Ireland would probably be number 2.

Don't talk about it just get on and do it!

I'm actually optimistic about the UK and having traveled around I wouldn't do Aus or NZ. Too sterile, nanny state and very little history.

You could well be right there.
If I could spend my time cycling, windsurfing, manning the bbq and drinking beer by the private pool then I could be persuaded.

I ditched the UK 6 years ago and moved with my then girlfriend to rural Croatia.... She is now my wife, we have two slightly wild kids, a home (old Yugoslavian farming estate) in a quiet village and near enough live off grid and can do what we want.

It is a beautiful place, the weather is great, open countryside stretches for miles and living is healthy.... There is also practically no crime.... We haven't locked our doors since we have been here, keys left in ignitions etc....

We love it here, a million miles away from life in the UK but not without it's worries and struggles.... Same as anywhere.

If you can lay back, keep your head and ride any issues that come your way and do without some of the luxuries you are accustomed to in the UK you can live anywhere....

Expecting my Australian citizenship through in the next 2 months. Both kids were born here, so they have theirs - Mrs Batfink and I figure we'd better get ours before they slam the door shut.

We are planning a move back to the uk in the next couple of years....... ageing (grand)parents, but we need to stop reading the UK news - place seems in total dissaray.

Absolutely. I did it before on a whim and loved it, the biggest mistake I've ever made was coming back. I've often thought of calling my old boss to see if there's work available, more so recently

that's quite an adventurous leap for most Brits - sounds really interesting. Is your wife originally Croatian? How do you get on with the language?

what are the main luxuries you have to do without? what do you miss the most?

We've bought a plot in a national park in Scotland and our planning application is online now. Is that a bad idea?

Depends on your reasons for selling up and sodding off. If it is you think the grass will be greener on the other side and your problems/worries/concerns will disappear....you couldn't be more wrong...they will follow and hound you to the ends of the earth. Better to deal with problems head on wherever you are rather than try to take the easy way out and run from them. If you just fancy a change then go for it.

Done it already. Now living and working in Sweden and loving it and, despite Howsyourdad1's comments, think it's awesome.

I can't see myself ever going back.

Some problems just can't be dealt with. Some countries are just going to be nicer to live in than others due to different cultures and priorities.

Love where we live, just hate the price of land/housing, but way harder for our kids, tried to see if they would consider shifting but they've already rooted here too. Could easily buy in laws place & go live in Corsica for 9 months a year & rent it the other 3 🤔

Sicily eh?

Am in the process of moving to Malta (Gozo island) and have committed to the flat but would definitely have taken a look at Sicily had that offer been available at the time. Waiting for the ferry to Malta from Pozallo, I had a look around and even there there was a decent looking farmhouse with couple of acres for around 90K Euros. The road out is awful but I think I saw a new motorway being built, probably for the ferry traffic, which is likley to ramp up property prices

Definitely none of this going on .Quite lucky that I have few worries , more a case of life's short what else is out there.

@willard  sorry I should be clearer. Sweden is great, i’m never going back to the UK either, but I do think some people believe it is Utopia, and yeah it’s not. Everywhere has its good and bad points is all I mean.

Jag förstår. I know here has faults (experienced some of them first hand), but for me, the downsides are outweighed substantially by the positives. I like it here and damn site more than the UK.

We were both late twenties, free and fed up with the UK..... Definitely didn't want to raise kids there. Tbh it was a bit reckless, we just fell in love with the place and let our hearts rule but then I'm of the mind that if you think about things too much you'll end staying in your nice safe bubble drinking tea... "best not risk it eh?!"

My good lady is Irish/English....the language is tough, not Latin based so not many similarities to Western European languages.... And Croatia has not seen much in the way of immigration so they are not used to hearing foreigners trying to speak their language so can be hard to make yourself understood.... Easier in Zagreb. I get by and manage to run a successful business here, Google translate is a godsend.

It is very much overlooked as an option for those wanting to escape the UK. It has it's issues but houses are dirt cheap, most often come with acres of land and forest, the weather is great, people friendly and it is safe, no crime at all.

Marmite, Walkers crisps, decent ale/cider.... You know, stuff you can quite easily do without but miss.... We get regular care packages from the UK to keep us going 🙂

Seriously though, the bureaucracy is pretty challenging.... It takes an age to get anything done, piles of paperwork for the simplest of tasks.... I miss the simplicity of getting things done in the UK..... But not much else.

The riding here is great to.... Mostly wild but endless....

Funny how a few people moved from the UK years ago & before any mention of EU referendums.
I wish (kind of) that I'd gone to Canada when I was younger, especially after I visited in 2000.

Mrs CD is Danish and my daughters have dual citizenship so we have a relatively easy out. But I find the place so dull, I've spent quite a bit of time there and the conformity makes me want to scream.
I do realise that this could just be that her family live in Jutland instead of near Copenhagen or one of the cities.
