I have a huge box of first day covers from Australia going back years and a couple of stamp collections gathering dust in my loft and hence decided they should go which then begs the question - how?

Anyone had to sell such things? Any ideas?

Obvious answer is fleabay but listing them individually could be a nightmare.

Grateful for sensible suggestions.

I know nothing about stamps, but I know the guy who runs this company - he's been in the trade for donkeys years. You may find what you have on there too to give a retail guide price...

My grandfather had a collection of British first day covers from aroung 1950-2000, plus a few extra older stamps.

We tried to sell them after he passed, we were told to use the stamps as they were worth more that way.

Tried to find a collector to give them to - no one was interested.

This. They're of their time. You may be able to list them on eBay individually and find the odd rare one, but it'll take forever and make you very little return in general.

If you have kids, then it can be a nice little project/earner for them.

Had this problem last year, my FILs collection. About 100 albums. Luckily there's a shop locally (where he had brought most of them) that had a look at them and made us an offer.

The problem is some of the stamps may be worth a reasonable amount, but would have taken us years to sort out, and the number of albums made it very difficult to take anywhere.

Very pleased with the outcome, and we got our spare bedroom back

I’ve got a small collection somewhere, my uncle signed me up (?) when I was born for a number of years, no idea how many years etc but I remember they used to come through the post and I’d put them into a folder. Never to be looked at again.

i assume they’re still at my mum’s somewhere 🤷🏻‍♂️

I run a postoffice - we've several customers who use their childhood picture stamp collections......

Pinta for us as we make no money on processing the items. They also come in and complain when royal mail either add additional charges or refuse delivery and return to sender because RM records on stamps is pants and the don't recognise a limited release picture stamp from 1981.

Personally I'd send them to royal mail and exchange them for the new barcoded stamps.
