Just sold my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt on eBay to a zero feedback bidder. Address is in London to an address which is an office block with lots of different companies on site. All very dodgy indeed and clearly a scam. They have paid.
You used to be able to cancel and offer to 2nd highest bidder but can't see that option now. Any ideas.
Not really. I had to do this yesterday and just asked the second highest bidder if they were still interested. When they confirmed they were I relisted with a buy it now at their bid price and told them to jump on it.
I’m not sure within ebay rules you can sell to the 2nd bidder if the winner has paid. Why is it a scam if they have paid you??

Mrs kilo works in an office block with lots of different companies on site. She gets things delivered there as she will be there during the working day otherwise they won’t get delivered or stolen off the door step by the local Amazon thief. Lots of office blocks, if not the majority are multi-occupancy here. You may need to do a bit more research before calling it a scam.
Is the business they work for in the address line? Does that business have an online presence and look legit? Call them up on the company number and ask to speak to XXX to see if they are real?
If they've paid you then you should ship it to them probably - photograph it before you put it in the packaging and once again after you have packed it, also weigh it once it's packed and photograph it on the scales. Maybe even video it working. Be sure to send it tracked and insured. There used to be an option when you create the listing to refuse bids from buyers with 0 feedback, not sure if that's still available, maybe check that out and use it next time...
I don't think pp covers you if you are posting to an address that isn't registered to the buyer's account.
If it’s tracked and insured then the courier can confirm it was delivered and signed for with no damage. At this point you should be pretty well covered. Don’t see as others have said that it’s necessarily a scam just because of what you have said. I’ve sent to many business addresses over the years without an issue.
On a separate note I was looking through the new seller hub thing yesterday and eBay told me I have sold £36200 worth of stuff since I first registered!!! I remember the big stuff like a camper van for £9,000 and some kitesurf kites, the odd bike and camera lenses and some Sonos amplifiers but I am gobsmacked that I’ve sold that much stuff!
Out of interest I have not had a single fraudulent buyer in all of that. The only item I ever refunded was a 2nd hand rear mech that wouldn’t align and I’m pretty sure the buyer was correct hence the refund.
You can set your buyer requirements to refuse bids from people with no, or up to 4 feedbacks. and also people who have unpaid strikes against their accounts.
Which doesn’t help at this point...
No reason to suspect a scam but my rule is you feel uncomfortable for any reason then just dont send it, not worth the agro of the one in a hundred that is actually dodgy. Just mark it as item lost or damaged, refund him and contact the second or third highest bidder. You get a couple of quid less but more peace of mind
I'd never buy something offered if I was second highest bidder personally. Just too convenient that their potential 'mate' offered more but didn't cough up in the end
Obviously before people ask me to take my tinfoil hat off first I'm just saying be prepared for second seller to say thanks but no thanks
Sold FiL's mum's old Rover on Ebay recently, winning bidder had zero feedback, said they couldn't pay now and would be in touch next month, never heard another thing and they never replied to messages. There was an inbuilt mechanism that allowed me to relist it to other bidders, second place snapped it up in minutes, zero hassle from that point on.
Quite a lot of you seem to be a bit paranoid! Shill bidding fears, office block fears, weight of parcel fears. How do you cope?
If the address is the one registered on eBay just post it. If it's not, don't.
