My mate wants to buy a pair of Mavic Kysrium S elite wheels off me, but we can't decide the price between us.
I don't want to take advantage by asking too much, and he doesn't want to give me too little. There's a lot of British awkwardness going on here! 😂
4k miles, never ridden in the wet, and nice flat brake tracks.
Any ideas about a figure?

That's the trouble, not enough on there to get an idea.
Think of a price then double it?

How good of a mate is he? If he’s a good mate I’d probably just give them to him. Good karma innit.
Look at completed items on eBay. They seem to sell £120-£200.
Seem to go brand new for £450, with 4k miles on them and a good mates discount I'd say between £150-£200, do they have tyres on them, how much life have they got left.?
At that price, if it were me and if it's a good mate, I'd just give him them and call it an early xmas pressie or tell him the next few rounds of coffee and cake or beers are on him.!

I like this, the trouble is I think he'd feel embarrassed as he conscious of being a bit skint now and he likes to pay his way.
4k miles is a fair amount unless you're super lightweight and/or live somewhere flat. Could be 50-60% of their life. Any concavity on the rims?
I'd guess around £80 mates rates assuming a bit of noticeable wear.

Fenland, border of Lincs/Cambs/Norfolk. Don't hit the brakes much 😂
Haha, that will make a difference then! I live in the Peak District and I have some lightweight alu wheels with less than 4k miles on them that are about done in.
A nice round ton and a pint

I've gone for the karma option and offered them to him as gift. I won't use them again as I don't like them.
+100 karma points..
Good for you 🙂
Aye karma as you’ll get it back 🙂
Nice, great stuff.

What?! Really? I'd be looking for 25k+.
One of us is abnormal, I'm just not sure who

You should've said that at the beginning.
If I've something I don't think I'll ever use again than no problem 'lending' it, with the priviso that once they're finished with it, give it back. I've a tiny HT that's been through a couple of 'lends' already (and if they break anything, just replace like-for-like).

25,000 miles on a set of lightweight rims sounds like witchcraft to me! The wheels I am on about are made by Prime and weigh about ~1450g (I'd guess the rims are Kinlin or Alex). I've used them over 3 seasons/year but not in proper winter. though I do do some rough stuff style riding on my summer bike every now and then which adds a bit of peak grit into the mix. Crit racing too which is a lot of braking. 3,000 miles might be a slight underestimate but I don't ride *that* much and sometimes use different wheels, so it can't be loads more over two and a bit years since I bought them. Oh, I weigh about 70kg kitted up. The wear indicator dots on the rims are nearly gone.
I've worn out rims on my commuter bike in maybe two years too.

Is the correct answer. See, you're already reaping the karma rewards, because everyone on here thinks you're the top bollocks.

That is bad! We ride in the Peak every weekend and that's less than 6 months mileage for some of the lads in my club (not me!)
Introduce a "pay it forwards" culture in your circles?
I usually ask for a token amount/beer money from friends unless it’s something properly expensive in which case it’s eBay value (based of past sales if possible) minus postage and PayPal/eBay fees as a top end price.
Either that or the long term loan strategy, luckily a good number of items I’ve loaned out have since been re-loaned within the group or even sold as if I actually got given all of them back I’d have nowhere to keep any of it! 😂
