What's the deal with selling a car with an expired mot? Presume no test drives are legally allowed.

Could it be driven straight to a garage where the work was booked in? Or would it need trailoring away?

I've only ever sold one car, and even with an mot I wouldn't really know how 😅

Did it expire March to July and qualify for the 6 month extension?

https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot

Same page also confirms the exzemption for going to a pre booked MOT test,

Nope - no test drives. Only way this can be done is if they are a trader with trade-plates. They have to be the registered trader to which the plate are issued though, they can't just lend them to a mate.

As for driving away when sold - IME no one takes a blind bit of notice of no MOT. They'll tell you a load of rubbish about how they'll turn up with a trailer but never will.

Just change ownership immediately online. Then it's the new owners problem.
