Not sold a car in a long time, and I have a semi classic car that’s in relatively short supply and on the up price wise.
After advertising it online I’ve had a decent offer but they live 4 hrs away so they have offered to pay by bank transfer and have it picked up by a car delivery company.
I have done a very extensive advert and have a long online presence of work done with the car so that’s why they might feel confident buying it without seeing it in person but I’m worried about it all.
Is there any way a bank transfer can be reversed? What are the pitfalls in getting it picked up? What about the V5?
I’m pretty good at selling on eBay and are good at identifying scams but this is new to me - no obvious red flags at the moment.

I sold a Beach Buggy remotely, I was in Scotland, it was in Kent at my folks and the buyer was in Cornwall.

They paid by transfer, sent a lorry and my dad got it out the garage for them and they took it away. It all went smoothly with no issues.

I did as much checking up on the guy as I could checking forums, FB groups etc and he seemed to pop up a fair bit in all the right places. If I hadn't been able to find all that info then I wouldn't have done it like that.

I always thought bank transfers were pretty much one way, but not really sure? It's the only payment method I'd accept.

yeah "picked up by delivery company" is a scam. It'll be a bank transfer out of a stolen bank account, and may be reversable in certain circumstances.

I've got someone else interested who lives nearer now which is good so I'll see what they say.

I was always under the Impression that bank transfer was a sealed deal but had some trouble lately when I sold a computer console and the buyer tried to get his money back claiming he hadn't Recieved it. Luckily I had it delivered by DPD and there was proof. He even claimed he had bought a different item and told them it was a golf trolley!! I had all evidence and txt messages to back up my side but they did put my account on hold while they investigated. I'm just glad I hadn't hand delivered it like I was going to do as they were only 45 mins away. So be aware. Glws

I've done similar, sold a camper to a guy in NZ, had it picked up by truck, taken to the docks and containered to NZ. Do your research in the guy, talk on the phone, ask for his ID etc, Anyone genuine won't mind.
