Movements are a bit agricultural. Mine lost about a minute per day which was just annoying. They look impressive but it left me feeling very much like it was a toy. Hamilton field watches are not that much more expensive and far more accurate and reliable.

I've just built a couple of watches using NH35 movements, one gains a second per day, one loses about six seconds per day, it's slightly luck of the draw.

As for reliability my son now uses my old SKX007 ( now modded) which I've had for about twenty years and has been bashed about aplenty, it being my mountain bike watch and general hack for much of that time.

Definitely a basic movement but robust and cheap to replace. You were a bit unlucky with one losing a minute a day, that's below even Seiko's very slack spec and could probably have been improved on with a wee tweak or two.

I've a venerable SNK805 which I love for nostalgic reasons but it's not a value proposition. Unless you're dead set on it saying Seiko on the face you can do a lot better with one of many generic field watches from AliExpress with a Seiko movement.

How about a Seiko quartz?

I've one, bought from on here second hand, and it's a nice looking, comfortable smarter watch.

I've got a Seiko 5 (can't remember which model), I have one watch that gets worn for everything. It has a hard time. It took some 'promo' shots for my brother in Oz who is precious about his Rolex & Tudors knowing that it would make his teeth itch.

Good solid hard wearing watch.

Citizen do some nice EcoDrive solar field watches, perhaps worth looking at?

As per El Shalimo have a look at the Citizen Promaster Tough - a titanium Solar (eco drive) field watch for about £350.

Mine stopped working after 10 years wearing everyday.  Started gaining about 30 minutes per day.

i could probably get it repaired but it would be cheaper to just buy a new one!

I’ve got an old Yokobies Seiko 5 mod with pilot-style sword hands, which I haven’t worn for ages, mainly because I found it a bit small, I preferred my dive watches. In this old photo it’s the top one three from the left, above my SPORK when they both had steel mesh straps.

I have the same Yobokies dial on a mod ( well built from scratch) with milspsec hands in a Lucuis Atelier 36mm explorer case, I really like it, non dive watch mods do lend themselves to smaller cases due to the 28.5mm dials, or they tend to look a bit case heavy.

I've had a Seiko 5 since 2011
https://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-mens-watches-208/seiko-5-military-automatic-sports-japan-made-snzg09-snzg09j1-snzg09j-mens-watch-2110.html?currency=GBP&zenid=d8962d0f1754ad7834533e0d5fda2e31

It's reliable and is around 20s a day off. I changed the crystal for saphire and bought a new strap last year. It now alternates with the Tudor Black Bay Pro that I bought with inheritance from my mum. It's thinner and lighter so a good choice for hot weather.

my jdm seiko quartz field watch broke. Currently have one of these on a nato strap (eBay - by far the best quality nato I’ve found)

steel case, screw down back and crown. Sapphire crystal, discreetly solar

seems an awful lot of watch for little money

I have a Seiko Solar Prospex Divers.

It keeps almost perfect time. I have never had a watch keep such good time.

Just checked it now and it's 7 seconds fast and I last set it when we changed to summer time.

So about 2 seconds a month.

Only problem is the bezel is battered and you can't get replacements like you can for the automatics.

@b33k34 - Thanks for that link, I need a new strap and as going to ask on here.

@gobuchul

I've had quite a few Nato's over the years (cheap Ebay, Timefactors and TF's new fancier hardware).  The one's I've linked are by far the nicest

Had a quick shufti in Harts window in town earlier, and there’s these two Seikos that might be of interest…
