My Company car goes back in a bit and I will be getting a new personal lease car funded by a car allowance.

Whilst I may go down the Octavtia vrs estate route, I am currently thinking of a Volvo XC60 or XC70 and am keen from feedback from people who have experienced both.

From my limited research so far, the 60 is a bit smaller, slightly cheaper to lease, looks nicer (IMO) but a bit awkward to get bikes on roof (although I would use a small step as I have one from people carrier days 🙂 )

I've got a XC60 and I sold an XC90 recently, mates have the XC70 so I've got a bit of experience of them.

What do you want to know?

My XC60 is the SU LUX D5. I looked at the r-design versions but chose the LUX instead. Space? loads, I can get my roadie in it both wheels on, rear seats flat or the CX no bother. I have a large rubber mat covering the boot which expands over the rear sea when flat just to protect them from the grime. Seats 4 easily, 5 if you sit them on the bolster seat in th middle of the rear bench. Drive? well it's quicker than the XC90 for sure even though they've got the same D5 215hp engine, in the main cos' it's a bit smaller. MPG? about 35-50 depending on where you are and how fast you drive. Driving? excellent, smooth, comfortable, airy, open, great views, easy handled and simple. Roof bars? yup I've got thule but only used them once for a short journey. Creature comforts? loads, satnav, parking sensors blahdiblah all th normal stuff really.

There are 3 variants of the XC60, the D3 (not 4x4), D4 (some have 4x4 some don't) and D5 (4x4). The D3 is a 2ltr version, D4 the 5pot detuned and the D5 the 5pot 215hp version.

XC70, same car really just bigger in the boot area and floor plan so much bigger and wider on the road. Same engine, boxes, equipment, same 4x4 config's as above.

HTH

^^ really useful, thanks. The XC60 certainly seems to get better reviews than the 70 and is where I am leaning. I'll be coming from a 5 series tourer and keen for decent space for kids and stuff, bikes go on roof. Would likley go for a 4x4 version, cheers

Well I've had a 530d sport tourings too (in the past) and two XC90's (one ofter the other) most recent so I'm used to needing space for bikes n boats n windsurifng gear.
Of all of them the 90' was bigger, but it was a bigger car, driving well I preferred the 530d's (had 2, one after the other) but then I prefer the 60 now because it suits all the practical things I need. The boot in it isn't "massive" it's large but not like the 5's and no where near the 90's but it's big make no mistake. It's a really comfortable place to be. I like the big tyres on the wheels as curbs in Town tend to be granite and large and I've scraped alloys to death before, these are excellent. The r-design has lower profile tyres and different alloys and it's one reason I chose the LUX. Seats are well comfortable, do you have small kids? cos' the rears are excellent for holding kids bolster seats (mine have them built in) or all the clips are there for extra security.
I've yet to add a towbar, there is an option of a built in one/drop down but I chose not to have it as I'm not towing anymore. If you do want one fitting you get a massive discount post sale from volvo to have theirs fitted rather than someone elses.

Not much more to say other than it's a blooming excellent car for me.

bikebouy, many thanks for the info - xc60 sounds pretty ideal. Kids are 9 and 12, so it's more a case of finding space for all their stuff if we're away for a week or whatever. I'll probably see what lease deals are best value, but will be going for the 4x4 version I think and see what toys/options are offered. Thanks again
