I got stung on a night ride last week. I was surprised how potent it was, aren't they usually dying back my this time of the year?

Love the buzz of nettles.

But they're typical Pommie amateurs compared to Ozzie nettles...

In the summer it just wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t get stung at least once a week.

I keep getting stung through gloves. Anyway, I blame the Romans.

The "lovers" do realise it's different for other people yeah? I get mild irritation, friend of mine comes up in big red bumps that cause proper grief.
Just that.
You love it so much store em in your Y Fronts 😛

Even our magpies will kill you. I fear them more than any spider or snake. Or nettle.

Just re-read the original article - bloke confesses he's not been stung since he was a child. Amateur, he needs to leave the house more!

Nettles? Pah! Lightweights compared to brambles, briars and blackthorns, all of which will rip your flesh to ribbons, or puncture your tyres repeatedly.
Just be thankful we don’t have poison ivy or oak in the UK!

Boris has said that all nettles will be sent back to Italy after Brexit. He's not fibbing is he?😁

Yes. Anne, my half sisters full cousin. Has been in Oz since Adam was a lad but she was born in Redcar, which makes her extra deadly.

I reckon nettles are more potent nowadays cos when I were a lad I didn't really notice if I got stung. Nowadays my skin tingles for ages.

It's not a proper summer ride in the UK unless you get home with your legs and arms tingling from the 6ft high nettles lining the bridleways, with slash marks across your arms from brambles.

Winter does have some benefits I suppose...

Binned it into a big nettle bush earlier this year. Fizzy-face for 24 hrs 😬

Brambles are the worst for me. I can ignore the scratches to my skin but it ruins my clothes.

It's one of the few benefits* of hat fever, the anti-histamine tabs make nettles less stingy. Still get stung, but doesn't last

*OK, so only benefit...

Nettles? Pff! We have cactus around here, a close brush with one of them can be very unpleasant.

NZCol

I caught a wait a while in my knob as I rang along peeing. You only do that once.

In my remaining 3 weeks here, I'll try not to replicate that experience.

A few years back I looked like one of Sweeney Todd's customers after catching one round my neck while being a bit enthusiastic on the mtb. My daily dose of blood thinners made it look far worse than it was. (It was on the track that film star and his mate rode "croc infested creeks" and all)
