[Closed] Secondhand Piano - Worth Anything?

My wife has an old upright piano that she learnt to play on when she was a kid. It is cluttering up our house and she wants to get rid of it.

Anyone know if they are worth anything? If so, how much do they normally go for?

I imagine there are desired pianos but this is just a run of the mill instrument.

Give it away to someone that will use it.

Call a dealer - they will tell you straight away if it is worth anything. Depends if overstrung or understrung or something.

Saw a program on this last week or it might of been a local news item.

You'll never sell it, sorry.

A firm that collects them has to charge so they can pay to dump them.

I sold one a few years ago, was in my flat when I bought it. Got £80 I think from memory. Some big lads came up from Newcastle with a trailer.

You might find its difficult to even give it away - but try ebay before you try anything else. Especially if its it reasonable nick and the keys all work.

But.... how do you measure 'worth' - £50 in your pocket, the warm glow of giving it free to a deserving you Richard Clayderman......... or smashing up a piano. It is sooooooo exciting.

Yup,they take up too much space for most people. A neighbour advertised his for months(free) and we ended up smashing it up so it could get taken to the tip 🙁 . We have one and I can see it going the same way,but for now ,it's still nice to hear it played now and again.

If its not been tuned for years it might not really be usable any more.
