I'm currently looking for a "new" frame/bike and it seems there is a huge glut of nomad frames for sale (annoyingly none in a size and price bracket which suits.)

So why so many nomads? There's a lot fewer other santa cruz options for sale comparatively, I can't imagine the nomad out sold other bikes in range by what seems 10 to 1, and I can't imagine it so significantly outsold the hightower/megatower to folks
Who now realise they should have bought a 5010/tallboy. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Is it just that "everyone" is ditching them for 29ers? Have lots of folks realised they don't want a big travel rig in the UK given they aren't going to the alps for 5 days this year? Is there a new "colorway" out this year which looks better in the interior lights of a t5?

More to the point and a bit less sarcasticly, it's there a reason not to look at one (cost is the big one partly as I've everything else for a 29er build)?

Interesting question and I'm commenting to follow the thread as much as anything. I do think it's possible people are better matching what they want with what they need though.

My heart wants a Transition Sentinel V2. My head says that for 90% of my riding, I'd be better off with the Spur.

In times gone by, I'd have just got the Sentinel and not given it a second thought. That's no the case these days.

Ha, you see, I'm looking for a bike for 10% (at most) of my riding so having to constrain 6 my budget accordingly.

There’s rumours of an imminent V5 Nomad doing the rounds, folk are getting shot before that kills the value of their V4.

maybe those who buy sensible bikes ride them for a longer timeframes?

the nomad was the first with that lower shock design (excl. downhill bike), so i guess it sold well

i had a 5010 it was a keeper, brilliant ride. i remember riding a local mtb challenge a lad on his nomad telling me how great it was peddling uphill. i didnt see him again that day.

Mostly the inexorable shift over to 29in, I suspect.

Surprised to see it's been around since 2017. Do we think the new one might be a longer travel 29er or a mullet?

It's not wheel size - I'm always looking and there's hardly ever any cheap Bronson frames but loads of Nomads, in fact lots of bargain DH orientated frames. AM/Enduro not so much. Maybe too hard to live with for general trail riding so they get sold on.

Could it be that due to Covid, a lot of dentists are struggling just now, so selling their SC's ;o)

AM/Enduro not so much.

That's exactly the nomad bracket though isn't it? Designed to be thrown down a hill, and pedals surprisingly well when it needs to but not the weapon of choice when you want to enjoy the whole ride rather then just the downward bits.

Maybe too hard to live with for general trail riding so they get sold on.

Would be my guess in honesty, thing is they're not the least livable big bike by any means but they out number the reigns, enduros or slashes being flogged off hands down which would suggest it isn't just they're fun sapping for a lot of most people's riding.

The less generous part of me thinks the nomad* particularly appeals to the "this year's look" crowd (I'm not blameless on thatone!) and given the price tag I'd (wrongly I'm sure) assume the average nomad rider is more likely to have another bike than the average canyon or giant owner.

Do we think the new one might be a longer travel 29er or a mullet?

Half a degree slacker, 5mm longer. Oh, and a motor.

Could it be that due to Covid, a lot of dentists are struggling just now

I thought nomad's were for accountants trying not to look dull at a weekend?

*equally I think that's true to a large extent of the equivalent bike in a lot of brand's ranges.

I think a lot of people buy nomads thinking it will be alright, but then realize it’s a hell of a lot of bike

Yeah, reality is i see a lot more on Bronson's doing bikeparking than Nomads, you add in the 29" options and it really does push the Nomad to 'niche'. It's an expensive bike for a stable style bike, when looking at a bike last year the bronson was as high as i looked in terms of travel, guessing a lot of people are like that, you can add slacksets, etc to a bronson, but struggle to do anything to reduce the nomad.

Because you've got all the bits for a 29er build.

And 29ers are better.

3 mates that had nomads are all on ebikes now, like most other owners I suspect, it's all about the gravity for them, ebikes get them more descending.

I can see nomad riders chopping in for an e bike, the closest I will come to an e bike in the near future would be an e nomad as I could self shuttle downhill trails on it
Can’t imagine how much it would cost though so it probably puts out of the market for one

I just sold my nomad..to go 29er and less travel.

Why?

29er is faster on most of the trails I ride.
