[Closed] SEAT oil change

Build a relationship with a good local car spares shop. I have with John & Mike at the very excellent Radcliffe Motor Supplies near Bury and they give me substantial discounts on everything.

Euro car part or car parts for less are pretty cheap. Im a little wary of the unknown brand oil they do, but the filters are good for the money.
Make sure you get the correct spec oil recommended by SEAT.

You do know the cam belt change is every 40k ?

Try GSF , though if you think you need plugs for Tdi I'm not convinced you should be doing it .
Cambelt and water pump every 4 or 5 years depends on engine code .

I'm not sure what's going on with GSF recently. Back in the day, you'd be hard pushed to get any discount there. Now they send out 40% off emails every weekend seemingly.

carparts4less is the same people as EuroCarParts but cheaper online version for some reason.

Halfords sometimes has cheap deals on oils though.

Not really a service item....but not wrong, given that the OP just said plugs.

You could always try your dealer for filters, I used to buy genuine from peugeot and they were often cheaper than motor factor cheap brands.

I generally buy from AEP Direct (do genuine filters) and oil from somewhere like Nielsen CDG (or AEP often price match) or I get the land rover filters from a land rover specialist as full OEM quality pack (you might be able to do the same from a VAG specialist) or I go to eurocarparts if I know they stock the correct OEM grade filter for a decent price.

Oil wise use what is recommended and with the right approvals. I use the ECP Triple QX fully synth in the freelander as it meets BMW specs and it seems fine so started using it in my old peugeot which always used to get Total Quartz as I got a load on bogof and they take the same spec.

Don't forget to check if brake fluid, coolant, cambelts etc are due.

As for CAM belt, sure the book says 80k, but will check again.

Another +1 for GSF. As above, they've done 40%+ off every weekend for the past month or so. Just sign up to their emails.
Oil can be pricey but they seem to know what they are talking about when i've asked them for advise in the past.

I've used Car Parts 4 Less, Euro and GSF without too much trouble. Euro and GSF are best when they have a sale on, which as has been said is most weekends at GSF and always for Euro. I believe Euro now price match too.

However I have just serviced my car with some items I bought from Trade Parts Specialists (TPS). They are part of the VAG group, and only sell genuine VAG items. They're supposed to be trade but were willing to sell to me, and I got some discount, although not full on trade prices.

5 litres of Quantum Platinum oil 5W40 (VWs own brand fully synthetic oil made by Castrol) was about £25. I also got a pollen filter, air filter, oil filter, sump plug washer and a set of plugs for just over £36 in VAT. Comparable to Euro and GSF prices so worth considering for VAG group cars.

TPS are great. Just had cam belt and tensioners done on my Leon. Pretty sure it's every four years or 60k

[s]LBS[/s] sorry Local Car Shop wanted £70 for the skoda spec oil, same spec from GSF was £25, plus £5 for a filter an hour to change both and have a general clean around saved £200 on the dealer service.

I bought service stuff for my similar Passat just the other day from ECP. They were stupid cheap, got the lot for less than the price of lunch. However they didn't have the long life oil in the right spec for PD engines.

I did similar for bolts. I phoned VW as usual, they stock checked their local dealers in nearby towns, then as an afterthought checked TPS which was round the corner, assuring me they would serve the public. So I called to double check they would serve me and there was a pause and he grumpily admitted that yes they did serve the public but didn't really want to advertise it. Eh? Either you do or you don't - if you don't actually want to, then don't. But if you do, don't try and put me off by being grumpy about it..? Chap in-store was fine FWIW but I now feel guilty about taking up their time buying £8 worth of bolts.

I do a low annual mileage so can't remember the max milage the cam belt but it should be replaced every 48 months.

This is for 2008 Seat Ibiza.
