Just been to look at a few seats and was very impressed, didnt get time to have a drive as the show room was quite busy with it being a skoda dealership as well .... quite a few oldies in there !
Our budget is around the 10k mark , so we either go for a brand new basic petrol/diesel or an older 10/11 plate with roughly 15k miles but a better spec car ?? ...
decisions decisions !!
I've not driven an Ibiza recently but I really rate Seat; I've had a few in the past and think they are excellent cars, modern styling VAG drive chain & build quality albeit a few less bells & whistles (e.g. the Golfs used to have nonslip rubber matts in the drinker holders / storage where as the Leon didn't).
Have a look at SeatCupra.net forums - lots of owner information and known issues etc.
I've got a 2003 MkIV Ibiza 1.9 TDi Sport and it's been a great car.
Downsides are that it's quite a choppy ride. They've tried to make it 'sporty' but while it grips OK, it crashes over poor road surfaces pretty badly. And the interior is well put together but looks a bit low-rent.
On the plus side....it's been almost faultless. I had a new wheel bearing at 38k miles, a new boost pipe at around 110k miles (I think) that was traced to the wrong clip being put on at the factory. The air-con compressor went last yr (apparently it's about right for VAG group cars that use that compressor, so not limited to Ibiza, but Fabia, Polo, Golf, A4 etc...) The boost pipe was £45 fitted and the compressor was £500 fitted.
It's economical and cheap to service & repair.
Now on 208.5k miles; it's an 03 plate. I got it 3 yrs old with only 24k miles on it, so have put almost 185k miles on it myself. I'd definitely have another.
I recognise that Ibiza Paul 🙂 Is it finished yet? It must have been 10yrs since I had your front bumper!
Anyway, for the age you're looking at the Mk5 pre facelift - It's an OK car if you don't pick a 'clever' 1.4TSI engine
The Ecomotive does what it should, but is fairly uninspiring.
I had a Cupra for 11 months, but the suspension (the rear in particular) was harsh & eventually annoyed me
I'd look at the Fabia to be honest
I used to have a tdi a few years ago - cracking little car!
Mrs Gti has just bought an Ibiza 1.2 diesel. She says look at Arnold Clarke or Motorpoint for pre-registered zero mileage cars at low prices.
The Ibiza is quite a nice little package with some subtle lines in the styling. We got the base model and she regrets not getting one with colour-coded door handles and mirrors. It has AC and decent heating and ventilation, well laid out. It knocks out more power than the old 1.4 diesel C1 she had before. My only gripe is that it is TERRIBLY high geared; you really have to stir the gearstick to get it moving and in 5th gear it has nothing extra to give. We are getting 55-60 MPG with 5000 miles on the clock.
Footnote: please don't call it an eye-beetha, it's a Spanish car and in Spain it is called an Ibeetha. You don't call Iraq eye-rack, do you? And I'm sure you don't call Ikea iye-keya, it's Ee-keah.
Carry on.
@ globalti .... Arnold clark is where ive been looking and at the 1.2 diesel so thanks for the info on that ..... talking about the gearing it would of been better then with a 6 speed box instead of a very long 5 speed box 🙁 ..... glad to see good mpg figures
I drive a Seat. Not the Ibiza though. Great cars, good after service. Same Engine as VW and Audi so pretty reliable. I had Audi's for years and tbh the Seat drives just as well.
SG has a 58 reg 1.4 petrol, inside layout could be a bit better, but very pleased with it, comes with AC and cruise control and gets 50+ mpg driven sensibly. Handles nicely, apparently better then diesels, as less weight at the front, but haven't tried one to compare.
