Am I missing something, or is a 'useful' search of this site no longer possible? (I'd search for old thread but can't find anything useful, unless you count an 8 year old thread as useful... it wasn't)
Obviously the search option (up there ^^^) is about as useful as a chocolate teapot and google site search is dead?

Google has discontinued sale/renewal of the Google Site Search since Apr 1 2017. The product will be completely shut down by April 1, 2018.
The "Forum Update" thread needs to be made sticky again… (or they'll be lots of these little "query" threads again…) all the "search" questions/information is in there.

Are you sure that's not for little Google search function bars embedded into websites?
dunno but it doesn't seem to work as well as it used to..
And the forum update thread is not a sticky and is 71 pages, 2800 odd posts, so I'm not manually searching that for clue as to what happening on the forum.
