Just read the last in Mckinty's series about Sean Duffy (RUC detective in Nor'n Ir'n during the troubles) and it's absolutely ****ing brilliant. Really really good writing and brings the characters to life loads. AFAIK gives an amazing portrayal of that time.
The bit where the local UVF chief comes out of his kitchen bollock naked with a fat machine gun and shoots the corrupt policeman had me in major goosebumps and watery eyes.
Like I say, I'm a complete philistine and only really have Mr Child to compare it to.
