I know there were folk on here raving about them being the best and I will admit their plain ones are pretty good but why are the prawn cocktail so rank and fishy?

Their prawns must be rancid and I think I will send a pack off to Mark and Stuart to review them on 6 music

Just open a bag and no need to stick your nose in, the fishyness fills the room

It only dawned on me a couple of years ago that most prawn cocktail crisps tend to taste of dilute tomato ketchup. I presume that trying to add a fishy flavour would put a lot of people off them

Only recently I heard someone explaining that the flavour was supposed to be that of the dressing rather than of the prawns.
AI OVerview:-
"Prawn cocktail crisps are primarily flavored to mimic the taste of Marie Rose sauce, which is the dressing sauce used in prawn cocktail dishes. While some prawn flavor might be present, the dominant taste is of the creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet combination found in Marie Rose sauce.

Here's why:
  • Marie Rose Sauce:
This sauce, a blend of ketchup and mayonnaise, is the key component of a prawn cocktail. It's often flavored with Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and other spices.

  • Crisp Flavor:
Prawn cocktail crisps are seasoned to replicate the taste of this sauce, rather than just the prawns themselves.

  • Dominant Taste:
Many people describe the crisps as tasting like a mix of tomato ketchup and mayonnaise, with a hint of other sauce ingredients like Worcestershire sauce.

So, while there might be a subtle prawn flavor, the predominant taste in prawn cocktail crisps is that of the Marie Rose sauce. "

No-one else watch "Blanks no-one asked for" on YouTube?

Anyway.  Fubar beat me to it, "prawn cocktail" crisps are prawn cocktail sauce flavour.  "Marie Rose" sounds posh but it's essentially the same as burger sauce found in cheap restaurants and kebabberies, just ketchup and mayo.

Don't bother with prawn cocktail flavour. THE flavours to go for with Seabrook's are either Canadian Ham or Worcestershire Sauce. The ready salted and salt and vinegar are very good too but those two fal ours are the icing on the Seabrooks cake.

Never eaten prawn cocktail flavoured crisps unless it was the only option.

However, it so happens that I have a packet of Seabrooks crisps open next to me at this very moment, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce flavour, and they are exceptionally good and tasty.

The L&P is my favourite seabrooks

There are two types of prawn cocktail crisps though, and Seabrooks are the type for people that like prawn cocktail flavoured crisps, rather than tomato and vinegar flavour crisps (although they are still vegi, so don’t quite get it right… see also vegi prawn crackers).

In the late 1970s my commute used to take me past the Seabrook factory.  In winter it led to an unfortunate consequence; chapped lips.

Recently bought 4 packs of Seabrook loaded fire eaters Trinidad Scorpion Chilli crisps, normally £1.25 per pack, paid 25p per pack,

I like hot food, I enjoy Vindaloo, Tindaloo and even a Phal now and again along with other hot/spicy dishes

These were the hottest crisps I have ever had from a mainstream crisp company!
