Imagine how scum who do this bring up their children to behave. No wonder every park, field, woodland, etc you go to is strewn with lucozade bottles, Red Bull cans and the like

You're suggesting that it's grammatically incorrect to begin a sentence with and, right?

I took the trouble to pick through a pile of flytipped crap in the Dales National Park a few months back. Found a name and address for a householder whose shite had ended up there (including a cut up NHS ID card).

[img] [/img]

Passed it all onto Craven District Council. Clearly they couldn't be arsed to either follow it up or pass it to someone who would, as I heard nothing back.

I guess the problem is proving the link between the rubbish contents, and who actually dumped it.

Another trail to be christened Fly Tipper like the one in Surrey Hills.

This is indeed scummy behaviour but you have to accept that the large charges made for disposing of commercial waste have lead to a big increase in such dumping.

I watched them dump this lot. Around lunchtime, broad daylight, in plain view of the road and offices, they just pulled up in a transit van, tipped it all out the back, then scarpered.

[img] [/img]

I ran down to try a get photos or a license plate, but they were gone by the time I got there.

Called it in to the council immediately who were very good: took a witness statement and sent out a guy to investigate it for evidence before they cleared it.

I have a similar lane on one of my routes, the council it has to be said do a good job of clearing the stuff about once a month but I cycle down it the following week to find a rotting old sofa and a load of car tyres, makes me angry and sad at the same time.

Not just a countryside problem. Round our way, Wimbledon, this has started happening, builders / workmen are just dumping neat piles of crap on wide pavements in quiet residential roads knowing the council will clear it up. Last week it was a pile of old tyres just stacked up and left.

The owner of the rubbish is the builder, he went out and bought the stuff, the fact he had soffit left over has nothing to do with the home owner, imo.

He's throwing away receipts for things bought for business purposes that could be claimed back for VAT/Tax purposes.

I would imagine his accounts aren't exactly "up to date"

He's a 3XL though, so you don't want him banging on your door looking for payback 😉

Charges should be factored into any work carried out. Problem is that these lovely people charge for legitimate disposal but then just flytip to make more profit.

with businesses I believe it's their look out to hire a reputable disposal firm. Pretty sure if any of our PCs end up in landfill (or in someone's back street) it's our company that get a visit from police/council. Dunno how it works for individuals but I would have thought it was atleast first port of call for authorities, "prove to us who dumped your shit or you get the bill"

And you're assuming this is the first time he'll have done this, I'm in the hang and flog em camp when it comes to fly tipping, do all that stuff listed above, council, check a trade, hell isn't it illegal, would plod get involved, especially if he can solve it without coming from behind his computer screen?

Some **** has dumped a load of asbestos waste on Tunnel hill. Now surrounded by some yellow tape, but in the wind this weekend i expect it'll have blown all over.

A couple of times i've noted reg numbers of 'dodgy' looking vans parked up at entrances to the military areas, with a view to returning later and see if they've dumped contents. As the title said - scum.

He might be large but if he's working on roofs changing soffits etc he's probably quite agile and flexible.

"The owner of the rubbish is the builder, he went out and bought the stuff, the fact he had soffit left over has nothing to do with the home owner, imo. "

Oh you would be surprised!
We had a site that following a road improvement was on the end of a dead end. Top tipping stop!
It became a 3 times a week visit to manage down the tippers.
Most of them are so ****ing stupid they leave a ID, address, receipt, account number, A PASSPORT!!!!.
We caught the same PVC windows guy twice! made him come back and clear up photographed him doing it.
"Hello Mrs Jones, I'm X from Y, I understand that you have had new PVC windows fitted. How do I Know?....
We have instructed our contractor to clear the site in 2 days time, at a cost of £500. which we will pursue you for."
Never failed yet.

I have found receipts (with their address) in rubbish dumped so here is what I do. Put the receipt in an envelope and send it to them without a stamp!! They will have to pay postage plus a £1 to get the letter. I put a note inside saying I found this receipt in a load of rubbish dumped at such and such a place. They may think twice about ever doing it again.

Can't help thinking you'd have been better off letting the council find the receipt and prosecute them for fly-tipping.

(Though I accept I may be putting too much faith in the legal process).

That'd scare me off!

Or I'd just stop adding blatantly incriminating evidence to my fly tips.

Or if I was super-cunning (by Oirish traveller standards) I'd leave a note with someone else's address!

Is this a "southren" phenomenon, I don't see a lot of evdidence of fly tipping where I live, Central Scotland. There are TV programmes about it but, as I can only stand them for about 15s, it always seems to be darn saarth. Not trying to make any point in particular here just curious if this is the case. In all the years I've been hacking the South Downs I can't honestly think of one serious fly dumping incident, ok I've seen loads of branches and grass cuttings the other side of Bishops Waltham but that has to be about it.
So there you have it, where I live it never happens 😆

My photo was from the Newcastle area, so not very southern.

Mind you I saw plenty of fly-tipping when I lived in Glasgow and Edinburgh too, so maybe you're just lucky or you don't ride places where they tend to tip?

tbh I see very little in the North - I can only think of one in the last few years tbh and it was a little smaller than the Dez B example

Thankfully we have acres and acres of wasteland [ brown field sites] for them to dump on rather than drive into the few areas of scenery we have to dump.

Anyone not transporting their own waste needs a waste transport licence or something similar in name, and an id card, they can be stoped by vosa and vehicle impounded if they dont have the correct paperwork.

Ok ernie here we go, the contractor is the Home owners agent, acting on their behalf - Contract- contractor. If it comes off your house and you have paid someone to dispose of it, you still have to ensure they do it legally.

At some point it has to be assumed you made reasonable checks and the person who did it was the one who broke the law.
IANAL - link to law as well please

Sometimes reporting it does get results.

A load of kitchen waste got dumped in a disused quarry on a neighbour's farm.

He called out Environmental Health and they traced it to a curry shop in a nearby town and fined them.

In this particular case the stuff we're talking about it (at least most of it) doesn't appear to have been removed from the client's home, it's left over, eg, the contractor bought too much or whatever. Not something you would expect the client to have any control over.

But I get your point.

BTW you did say that it was the contractor not the home owner that you collared :

We caught the same PVC windows guy twice! made him come back and clear up photographed him doing it.

It was still waste from a customers job.

"BTW you did say that it was the contractor not the home owner that you collared "

no I didn't, I said it became a top tipping site, we caught lots of people. including the same contractor twice. By identifying the address of the home owners (delivery address's on the PVC window packaging) telling them we would pursue them and they got on to their contractor who they had paid to dispose of the waste, to collect the waste. The same guy in two cases about 10 days apart.
