(I am sure this will go badly!)

The question that the Scottish Government has proposed for the referendum about Scottish Independence is

Do you agree that Scotland should be an Independent Country?

Having read this a few times, it seems a rather vague question. I can agree that Scotland should be, but this does not say that I want to to be?

Any thoughts?

(Please NO debate on the whole Scottish Independence, there are plenty of threads about that subject)

I think Mel Gibson's argument has weakened over time

I'm scottish and I really don't care either way.

If it happens and turns out to be rubbish, I'll just move back to England 🙂

It is a vague question. I think there is a better case for it than say, hypothetically, a widely dispersed race being "gifted" a state somewhere in, oh let's say for the purposes of this example, the Middle East 🙂

The question is a "get out clause" just in case the outcome does not go swimmingly well.

A typical slimy political question with dishonesty. Bloody politicians!

Pedant's Corner

as he was the only one in the corner at the point of starting the thread. Now that you and I have joined, you are correct.

Why do you think it vague? seems fairly clear to me

Peterfile - Imagine if history had turned out slightly differently though. What if the colonial powers had been at the brandies all afternoon, got the paperwork mixed up, and 'that' nation in the middle east was gifted to the Scottish by mistake?

Imagine the population of Glasgow suddenly blinking into the 40 degree heat, wondering what all these Palestinians were getting the hump about 😀

ha ha, it would be amazing binners 🙂

The Palestinians (if we are using Israel as a hypothetical example here) would be able to live in peace as all the Celtic and Rangers fans fought each other 🙂

It's a question used to trick those in for handouts.

Bet those in for the handouts will feel hard done by once they find out their future master will be a fish feeding on them their benefits.

😆

p/s: an eel perhaps ...

they should put;

"within the next 2 years."

at the end of the question (or whatever time period is deemed appropriate).

"Would you like Scotland to become indepenent in the next X years?"
Yes
No

Simple and with no loopholes (bar the definition of "independent").

Do you [s]agree[/s] care that Scotland should be an Independent Country?
